I have a 2008 44' Sundancer with Zeus pods. One needs a new manifold but I am being told that the parts are obsolete. Does anyone know where I could obtain one? The part number that I was given is 879148t27. Thanks!

Tough to find parts for. Someone will chime in

Welcome to CSR. You should complete your profile with your location so other members can give better advise when it comes to parts, service, ect. (read Zeus issues and unique repair procedures) not to mention the waters you are in be it salt or fresh. There a bunch of Zeus owners on here, hopefully someone will chime in soon. Again, Welcome to CSR.

Is this what it looks like?

Seems like a total rip for an aluminum block with some transducers.

No worry......Zeus guys have deep pockets so 4 BOAT bucks is a rounding error on the maintenance of these things. In my opinion, one of worst engineered propulsion systems ever created by Mercruiser. Certainly helped tank Sea Ray on building larger boats.

@PlayDate
Pretty sure it was the hull & quality control issues on the L series yachts is what pushed Sea Ray over the brink...

With all due respect, and I sincerely mean it, do you have much specific ZEUS experience?

Other than helplessly watching two friends drop $35k and $45k for "maintenance" and then having to take major discounts on their pod boats when they tried to sell them.......no.

I have little interest on working on something that Mercruiser and Sea Ray no longer support although it apparently pays really well. I have no issue with the concept of pod drives and Volvo has made a killing with theirs. Mercruiser on the other hand just built a product with problems that don't seem to go away with upgrades or "maintenance".

I wish that wasn't the case but Mercruiser has moved on to outboards and wants the pod issues to disappear.

Finally, you don't need pod drives to dock a boat of any size. They are really nice for that but in open water you need reliability. Just my thoughts.

Apologies to the OP for the hijack.

$40k maintenance is obscene. No doubt.
I don't know current cost, but 3 years ago a NEW pod could be had for 35k. Including a warranty... If i was presented with a repair of that magnitude, I can't imagine not going new.

In the open ocean, pods are more fuel efficient, and unless you hit something that would rip out of ANY propulsion system, just as reliable as straight shafts. The advantages in close quarter maneuvering is obvious, not to say it cannot be done without pods, of course it can. Just easier.

I boat in the Great South Bay (Pond) on the south shore of Long Island where we are depth challenged. Resealing the prop shaft is something has needed to be done on occasion in the sandy, silty water I boat in. I promise you, it is a LONG way from the dollar figure you mention.

I respect your thoughts, however, these are my experiences.
Shaps

Edit:
Mercruiser does support these.

I would call mercury direct and ask what the hell. If I have a Cummins production part and it goes out of production I have to maintain service orders for a significant period after

Thought they had to continue to make parts or repairs for 7 years before they stopped making parts for repairs
