My wife said this morning that it is time to move our daughter into a new workstation/desk now that she is in 3rd grade. The plastic desk unit she has is going into the sons room instead.

So off I go to the local furniture department store to buy a new student desk. I see one there that is perfect and it is 20% off today. Alright! I will take one thanks.

Out comes two flat pack cartons that weigh an absolute ton.:wow:

I have them deliver the cartons cause they are way too big for my landcruiser to carry. :smt101

So the cartons turn up about 20 mins later and I open them up to find the biggest Meccano set you have ever seen.:wow::smt013

The installation guide looks more like an encyclopedia. It has taken me an hour to find, figure out, and put just one draw together.:smt100

I certainly did not expect to be spending my birthday putting this monstrosity together, I would like to find the designer of this and introduce them to my phillips head screwdriver and rubber mallet.:smt021

You have stumbled on to my pitch for a reality show. Husband and wife teams compete to properly assemble in the quickest manner these uber complex trillion part peg and cam laminated press board beauties. Stressors included (beer drinking, chain smoking, control freak husband in a "biotch don't make me T",,,,, you get the picture. Series underwritten by iKea, Bud Light or Jack Daniels and titled "Some Assembly Required".

I cannot believe that we have finally finished putting this behemoth together, it only took 6 hours to do it.:smt013

My wife and daughter have just announced that they forgot to get me a birthday card, sorry about that. :smt101

So that seals that birthday, just another day of the week here.

I happened to comment to my wife that the last birthday party I had was in 1971 and she politely informed me that she never had a party on her 40th birthday.:lol:

too bad the boat is soooo far away ,be a good reason for a ride .

Happy birthday !!!

Just remeber... The instructions for these things always have a mistake in them. If you put tab G into slot G, the damn thing is gonna fall apart on you. Put tab G into slot Y and you'll be good to go...

Happy Birthday Paul!!!!
What a heck of a present you got!!! Sounds like my house!:smt021

I always thought I was the only person who got a chore list from my wife on my birthday??

But, hey at least the instructions were in English! :)

Happy Birthday from your boating buddies!

Did you have any spare parts left over?

She was 40 in 1972? Just sayin
Happy birthday anyway

Thanks guys, just for the record (in case SWMBO should ever read this) my wife is 41. :smt001

Nothing like Chinglish manuals and they managed to mix up the dowling inserts which took sometime to sort them out. However we ended up with all the parts in the kit, that must be a first.

Happy Birthday Paul, celebrate next week sounds like she owes you one for that kinda birthday.!!!

I have assembled (or what I thought was assembled) many of those "flat box" projects. I bought a new lawn tractor last year and was halfway expecting a few flat boxes to be delivered!

Happy Belated BDay!

On the other side, sometimes it's not all about us and I'm sure your daughter LOVED her new work area and loves her daddy for building it for her. My girl hits the 3rd Grade in September - it's a great age!

Enjoy!
