I don't post much anymore, but I do want to share something very nice with everybody.
Our yacht club brings in about 50 veterns from the Perry Point Veterns Hospital in Northeat, MD each year for a "Veterns Cruise". This has been happening since the late 1950s. What it is, boat owners at the the club take about 6 vets out on thier boat for a little cruise, followed up by lunch back at the club featuring Maryland crab cakes. Every boat must have a first mate, my wife was my first mate. She listened to their "war stories" and kept them in sodas and snacks while I ran the boat. I got the basic questions like, how fast is this boat, how long is it, how much gas does it hold, ect. While heading back to the club the discussion quickly turned to Michael Phelps (a Baltimore local and a huge Baltimore Ravens fan...........thank you very much) and how he was stuffing it down everybody's throats. After lunch I gave the Michele Ann a good bath and decided it was to nice to just sit on the boat at the slip. So I untied and went out into the Chesapeake Bay. It was as calm and as flat as could be. I had a couple sports drinks, smoked a cigar and thought about how good we, as boat guys, have it. Ran back into the club around dusk, with my blue LED cockpit lights on (very cool), tied up and went up to the club house and watched Michael Phelps win another one. Overall, a very fullfilling day and came away feeling very good.
Oh, and about the partying at yacht clubs...........we got that down to a science!
