Wrong Hole? Boat Explosion

Sounds a bit strange to me? I cannot see how a little water would clear the gas fumes, if this is in fact what happened? Bad event anyway though.

Maybe they put fuel in the water holding tank and tried to evacuate all the fuel but didn't. The fumes probably build up in the holding tank turned on the fresh water pump Kaboom? What ever happened definitely a bad day.

Fueling the wrong hole. I'm not touching that! How can someone know so little about his boat that he doesn't know where the fuel fill is located? Terrible that someone had to learn that ignorance can have awful repercussions.

But it appears the explosion happened AWAY from the fuel dock? And they say the boat was a 1966? There is many unknowns in this story.
