Wow, what a boat Ride!

Our local news just reported that this viral video was turned over to Missouri authorities and the driver has been arrested...

So....what is he doing with his left hand? I have a 26 foot Sundeck and honestly do not know if he is pulling back and pushing forward on some type of trim tabs or the throttle. Whatever it is, he is doing it super fast.

My friend has a 30' Cigarette Mystique with twin 500 EFIs in it. Max speed Ive done in it with him is 93...and that is scary crazy stupid fast. Almost got a ride in an MTI Cat last week that does around 140...At even 70 if you dont react immediately to changing conditions, you can get into trouble really fast. My friend is working the throttles constantly when going 80 to keep the drives from blowing themselves up as we get out of the water.

I was under the impression life jackets were mandatory during most poker runs?

As others said, they are throttles, what he does, is every time he hits a large wave, he throttles back, because the drives are most likely coming out of the water at that speed and hes trying to keep them from overspeeding or over-reving. If you ever watch the speed boat races with the Fountains and the Cigar's they do the same thing.

Needless to say....what a Mo-ron! Conditions look to choppy to be running at that speed, escpecially with riders!

I was going to refrain form posting but I guess I can not....

This is my opinion and some may disagree but; In no way should that boat be going that fast, on that water, with that many unprepared people in it. I don't care how "experienced" he is. I don't care if the boat was "built for that". I don't care who tells me how wrong I am. That was just plain reckless. The "driver" perfectly demonstrated how not to handle the boat.

So it was shoot out weekend. Basically a 1 mile drag. Fastest boat on the lake that day went 192mph. It was an open cockpit and much like the one in the video. Hell, a pontoon boat did 112mph that day. So numerous boats going as fast as possible with hundreds of boats anchored watching coupled with a long narrow lake. So after the races everyone leaves. Add adrenalin and things are gonna happen. Right or wrong it happened. Didn't hear of any other major incidents that weekend but that one happened to have a camera.

That video and story are on today's Yahoo News feed.

What was he charged with?

As a divemaster, this was my first thought. Have fun, push limits, but safety of your "clientele" first.

I heard from friends that live on lake it was a side wave. The wave crashed the side they didn't even see it coming. That lake is terrible for waves like that all the time. Its surround with concrete walls that send waves back out.

A side wave huh? Please tell me that this is not an attmpt to lay blame anywhere other than in the "driver's" back pocket.

I was suprised that none of them were sitting down. Some were kneeling maybe. Seems like going that fast you'd want to be planted and braced.
