Have you confirmed that your computer can see data on the card? Before viewing your Vision card via your computer operating system, it's considered a "best practice" to protect the files on the card by sliding the lock lever to the lock position. Don't lock the card with the copied maps though, because you can use that to transfer data.

If you can see files/folders on the cards, have you selected the card within Homeport with the Pull-down menu in the upper left corner? It may default to "Global Map".

Yes I can see 2 files, 1 I believe is the map because it's almost 2 gb
i will have to look later today to see .. But what I did was insert sd card... Wait.. Homeport would do nothing so I used top menu
to select import.... Is that not right?
What is the procedure after downloading map to sd card from gps unit and inserting into computer ?
thanks

The import feature is to manage your own data. To see maps residing on a card, insert the card and give your computer a moment to read the files, then use the Pull-down in the upper-left corner of Homeport to select the card.

Don't mean to ressurect an old thread, but BOE Marine is offering half-off the Vision G2 cards. I'm seriously considering one for my Garmin 4208. While I understand I can't solely rely on the Auto Guidance feature (that would be stupid), I am intrigued by it. However, after reading this thread I am trying to figure out if I HAVE to have a Garmin Autopilot to use the feature. I don't have any Autopilot--but I like the idea of an auto route charted for me that I can follow along manually. Will I be able to do that? Can I make changes to the Auto Guidance route once it is created? Thanks!

Garmin Cards can be copied and unlocked with the right tools so they are fully usable everywhere. In the US that would be illegal - but in some other countries it it legal to back up your own media for safekeeping. It is a $300 chip we are talking about so a backup is always a good idea - where it is not illegal...

You sure about the legality Kaz? I was under the impression that you were permitted to make backups of anything for personal use or safe keeping of the item. The problems came with illegal distribution.

I got an eMail but cannot find it. This is what I saw. Unless I'm missing something, Amazon is beating Jim on this one.

Bryan,

Yes, you can follow them manually. I can lend you my G2V card in the spring if you want to try before you buy. I think you'll like the imagery, but IMO making waypoint-based routes in HomePort is a better way to go for plotting. I'll even do that for you - I can create routes from CIC to your favorite destinations, or use the track data from your 4208 so the routes will match your regular habits.

You do not have to have an Autopilot to use Auto Guidance. I belive you can make changes to the route once Auto Guidance makes it,

Thanks! I may just bite the bullet as the sale ends on Friday. I might take you up on the HomePort though...
