Would a 270 9'2 beam seem tippy?

Very seriously thinking of putting an offer in on a 2000 270 contingent on a sea trial and mechanical survey but a couple of people told the wife they seem tippy. This one does have twins so the extra weight and a little larger beam should stablilize it.

It's five hour drive plus so just gathering as much info I can before hitting the road again.

My 290 is 30' 6" with a 9' beam and is not "tippy"

my 2000 270 DA with twins is very stable.the boat dosnt ride "Heavy" in the water ... it actually feels quite nimble., i find it weighs enough to smooth out the ride in the chop.

I have a single big block and it rides great!

If my 96 'narrow beam' is not tippy with twins - I doubt the extra 8" would make it so. The 270 is a great boat in both configurations. What you may be referring to is a boat with the V hull which is sensitive to load on board and people moving around. You will learn to use the trim tabs to balance the ride - you can actually do the same thing with drive trim but that takes a bit more practice. Good luck with the offer!

Thanks guys, we were getting very close on a clean 290 with twins but after reading a few 270 threads and the ability to trailer it I started looking at 270's with twins and found a nice low hour one that I'm going to make an offer today

Plus being 10 grand cheaper works for the bank account

I do not have problems with stability issues with mine. I also have only a single engine. I wish the boat had a bit more get up and go to get on plane with a full load; otherwise I am very happy with mine. I suppose the twins would have that extra get up and go though (but also twice the maintenance).

You will have no issues, single or twins. I have a friend with twin 4.3 and mine is a 7.4. Both are so close, He has a touch more hole shot but I get a tad better fuel range. Never had any issues with feeling tippy on either. I think you will be happy with the 10,000 in your pocket over the extra 2'

The money saved should make the wife feel less stressed. We fell in love with 290 but the marina wasn't budging on the price and with taxes and the bigger slip it was getting out of our comfort range. The good thing though was they would take our boat on trade so if private seller accepts offer we have to sell our boat :smt089

I had a 1991 270DA w/ a single 454 Big Block 330 HP Mercruiser and a Bravo II outdrive. I don't know if you are familiar with Lake Erie and how quickly it can kick up 3 to 4 ft. waves, but I never had a stability issue. It was a great boat!
