I've started washing my boat now that I'm retired. This is the first season without a boat service and I looked into and asked around about non wax stripping boat soaps. After sorting through all of the hype, I bought some Ultra Pine Boat Soap made by Woody Wax. Also picked up a 16 oz spray can of Fiberglass and Non-Skid Deck Wax also by Woody Wax. It is now late August and I've been using these products once a week since mid April.
I am pretty amazed with the results. The ads say the spray product lays a non slippery wax down that sheds stains. I've noticed that the boat looks pretty good on wash days but I go ahead and clean the boat anyway. It looks fabulous when I'm done after spending 3 hours each time I wash.
Today I went down to check things out thinking I would do the weekly washing. We had a thunderstorm in the early morning and picked up 2 inches of rain. Later, the sun came out. So....when I checked the boat, it was dry and sparkling white. There is no visible dirt. It does not need to be washed. A purple bird bomb stain that was there yesterday is gone without a trace remaining.
The other thing about these products is how easy they are to use. The soap smells good and works pretty much like you would expect. Used with a soft brush on a stick, you can see the dirt disappear without much effort. When you are done with the soap, you spray your brush with the wax product and apply it to a wet deck. Three or four sprays on the brush does my whole boat and takes about twenty minutes.
After the wash and wax, I dry the boat with my chamois on a stick. Looks just like the old days and I save the 85 bucks.
Sorry for the long post. I don't usually endorse cleaning products but this stuff is really a great product. The boat looks freshly waxed in August and has not been touched up since it was detailed in February. For those who do their own cleaning, this is worth trying.
