Hi all--Sea Ray Newbie here. I just bought an 03 176 with the 3.0 I/O that we plan to use to learn about lake boating (we've been salt water boaters for decades). Can anyone tell me if wood was used in the construction of this boat, and if so, what areas? Thanks.

Well that's pretty interesting. None of the other boats that I have owned in the last 20+ years have had any wood used in the construction (other than some teak trim, etc.). Why would Sea Ray (which seems to be more of a "premium" boat) still use wood in the construction? Is there some advantage of wood? I don't think it's cost, as Sea Rays seem to cost a good bit more than no wood boats.

Best of my knowledge, our 2006 185 has no wood in the hull - we have a thru-hull fitting which I have removed (in the floor, front of bilge) - solid fiberglas.

I have a 2002 176 SRX and have wood in the transom, as i discovered when putting in a thru-hull. It was about 1" thick plywood.

Well, I found on the SeaRay website, in the model specifications, that the 176 has a "fiberglass floor and stringer system", so presumably there is no wood there. From the report above, it apparently does have wood in the transom. I thank you for the information!
