I want to replace the Rule 1100 gph bilge pump under the steps in my 270 amberjack with a Rule 27S automatic bilge pump (no float switch, computer controlled).

The new Rule bilge pump did not come with wiring instructions, and it has 3 wires instead of two. The new one has two brown wires (one with a white stripe) and black.

Current setup is a rule bilge pump with a black and brown wire with a float switch with gray wires.

I would like to tie in with the regular wiring instead of running new wires all the way to the buss bar.

Any one ever install this type of bilge pump?

Not sure about the wire colors, myself. But, maybe I can point you in a direction. I assume the new pump came with instructions, including a wiring diagram? Next, look in your boat's owner's manual - there is a wiring diagram section - that will tell you where each wire goes.

That's not a 275gph pump, right? I mean, that 275 is just a model number?

Its an S, not a 5. The 27S is an 1100gph as well, so he's doing a basic swap for a float switched model to an automatic sensing model.

I would imagine the black is ground, the brown is 12v constant, and the brown/white is 12v switched. This way you can turn it on manually yourself, or with the 12v constant it does its run every so often whether you have it on or not and senses whether there is any water. Im not sure if that pump is currently switchable for you or not, if not you may not use one of the wires, but Id imagine this should help.

Ah-ha! That would be why I couldn't find it mentioned on the Rule website! Thanks - I didn't read his post closely enough.

Thanks for passing on the pdf files.

FYI, the reason I am using this pump is the poorly designed sump on the boat. If enough water gets in the bilge to activate the float switch you will be wading in water in the galley. Sea Rays take on it is the system is designed to keep the boat from sinking, not to keep the carpet dry. This one turns on every 2.5 minutes. If it senses resistance on the impeller, it pumps until there no resistance. It is cuts on and feels no resistance it shuts off.

Anybody got any good insight on wiring one of these pumps? I looked over the PDF but didn't knwo if I could just wire into the current bilge wire. The current bilge only has the 2 but the new one has the 3. Thanks for any help.
