Not sure what you mean by wireless depth guage. Are you referring to a sonar that sends a signal to the bottom and calculates the depth of the bottom or fish based upon how long it takes to get a return signal? If that is what you are asking, the answer is yes. Sonar is vital to any vessel when cruising or entering unfamiliar waters. Does not matter how many engines you have. Matters only that you know how much water you have under your keel.

Or, are you wondering about castable fish finders used for fishing? If so, you would always be looking at the bottom you passed over, never seeing it before you passed it. Not sure I get the point of that.

I was referring to the fish finders. No cable - looked like easy way to determine depth. Thank you for your insight.

My radar is Wi-Fi but I haven't heard of that for a sounder... I'm not saying it's not out there, just I haven't heard of it.

See for example Deeper Smart Fishfinder - wireless sonar on YouTube - bluetooth connectin - no wifi
Also, notice that there is an adjustable arm for attaching to the boat. What I had in mind was attaching it to the transom step but I wondered if anyone had tried this and noticed it would not work because of the cavitation from the propellers.

What are you trying to accomplish with this approach?

Employing fish finder without having to pull cables to a transducer.

I looked into this and decided against it. Too many cons, not enough pros. I snaked the cable through where I could and it's exposed in some places, but it works flawlessly, unlike wireless.

The new depth sounders do a nice job of also displaying fish. One transducer, one cable and a MFD gets you a nice modern solution.
