Thanks to great info from boatmailster and jrcinnh in this thread, I am making progress, but have not actually started the work. The gears may be shot because it only makes one sweep, then stalls until I move it by hand. Also lots of slop at the blade.

This has been another case of superceeding part numbers that dead-ended at Marine Max but I finally resolved at Sea Ray customer support. The motor appears to be $110 through MM. Anyway, I have asked MM to give me a labor quote so I can decide if I should farm it out or do it myself. What I'd like from the guys above or anyone else on the board is a realistic time estimate for my own labor, assuming I have the replacement on hand.

Thank goodness for small digital cameras.

Can you easily reach the mounting screws?
If so, with part and a tube 'o 5200 you should be done in an hour.

Thanks, Todd. Access is the problem alright. Can only get one hand into the space, and will be working by feel.

There is only one screw, it's screwed up into the underside of the deck. It's only in a few turns and I removed it with my fingers. Putting it back was a problem. You really can't get in there. Finally I just RTVed it in the hole. It's just there to stop the motor from spinning.

I spent about four hours doing this. But this included taking the motor and gear box apart. It also included a lot of angst about pulling the ceiling down by pulling too hard on the motor. Plus quite a few trial and errors on putting the motor back in the light fixture hole. You can't dainty about this, it takes some forceful pulling and twisting.

Given the screws and sharp edges, there will be blood.

Thanks, jrcinnh. I have not heard back from MM, but that is no surprise. I am confident that I can do it as you did, especially now that I know what to expect. It is a matter of whether I want to commit another Saturday to repairs or write a bigger check. (Blood is not even an issue)

Hello,
Did any of you happen to check or measure the length of the shaft on the motor (where it goes through the deck for the arm splines)? Reason is I have good used wiper motors from some utility vehicles that are 100 deg. The splinned end is the same. The only uknown is the length of the shaft??? I have a 99 310DA and didn't pull the wiper motor out yet and would love to know the answer to this. I can't find any specs on the sea ray part number motor.

Thanks in advance!
