Whats your approach to wipers? Should they perform well, or are you satisfied with some help from them, or are ok without them working (even dismanteled) ?

My work, but quite poorly, wipe range is off, look rusty...so I am trying to decide what to do with them. Rainex is quite good, but just like the idea that "everything should operate" but is it really worth sinkikg the money as I don't boat that much in the rain. Does maintenance typically bring wipers back to life?

Cheers, The Finn

I've wondered the same thing. even though mine does work-- i'm not sure i'd ever use it even when it's raining. mine is rusting as well and just plain looks bad. I hope people comment here to help me make the decision to just remove it.

I just replaced mine because of corrosion. Tried painting the originals but the still looked ugly. Easy swap. $135

On our 240 Sundeck I took it off as it was never used and in the way of the tonneau cover. On present boat use all the time especially this spring.
I have a shot blaster at work so no problem cleaning up the arms and repainting ... the blades are just truck blades so replaced

Ok, thanks, anybody else?
Does anybody have experience that lubricating or other maintenance would bring the wipers to better operation? Mine work if I talk nice to them and help them out a bit

Fresh blades. Maybe some rainx on the windshield.

Mine still look good, and I changed the blades, but the plastic washer squirted that attach to the underside of the arms need replacement. Anyone know a part number and source for them?

I have replaced them there is a kit online but I don't have my laptop on the boat to look up where I bought them. If no one gives you a link I will look it up Monday

Thanks!
Appreciate it.
I’ve had no luck trying to match them up to anything at local places and the Dorman numbers I found online don’t show the bottom of then where they would snap on to the arms.

I have replaced both wiper arms. The new arms swing straight up like car wipers to wash the windshield. I don't use them because I can't see where I am going through the lower windshield. I'm always standing while underway...

The wiper arms are the same as truck wipers. They'll probably be a LOT less expensive if you buy them from a truck site rather than a boating site.

Have been trying get the old arms off, but both are quite stuck. Could I be doing something wrong?

I do see the "clip" under the arm, which moves easily, but... I have added some lubricant spray, gave it some hammer, but nada. I dont see that there could be any cap on the arm that could be removed. Brut force, or any suggestion?

Mine had a cap on the arm where it attached to the motor drive shaft. The cap was hinged. Lift it up and there was a set screw that fixed the arm knurled drive shaft. Loosen it with an allen key.

See the part in the red circle; it lifted up. Then the arm would slide off the drive shaft. Careful - when they come off the drive shaft there is an immediate chemical reaction that causes the arm to become extremely slippery, causing it to falls out if your hands and overboard.

Now just what kind of message does it send to prospective buyers when it is time for you to put your boat on the market? Are you really going to say to prospects, "I never boated in the rain"? Come on, fix'em.

I didn't boat much in the rain either with my AJ, but sometimes it happened. A functioning wiper is also very necessary to clear the windshield if you take waves or spray on the windshield. I got spray all the time in moderate chop, especially in quartering seas.

Therefore, I view functioning wipers as important safety equipment. When my motor seized up over a winter I replace it before the boat went in the water.

Yes, I am planning to replace the arms and wipers, hope that will do it. Thanks for the cap pic, will have a new look at it tomorrow

Thanks! I took a screenshot of the nozzle and I’ll see if it matches up to what ai have.

If I remember right ...the nozzles were universal for left right.... you snapped the nozzle off the base and rotated it snapped it back on...

Thanks again. Those are the ones I have. Just placed the order.
Yes, I think you’re right. Looks like you just flip one around for use on the opposite side.
