I keep my 280DA in the water all year round on a lake in Tennessee. The lake never freezes. While winterizing this weekend, I pulled all the plugs on the engine except for the plug underneath the fuel cooler on the bottom of the starboard side of the 4.3L engines. I did not pull this plug because it was in a position that was next to impossible to reach. Anyway, since I couldnt pull the plug, I decided I would pull the hose from the front of the cooler and drain the water that way. When I did this, water would not stop coming from the hose and I finally figured out that since the boat is stored in the water, this water is probably coming in from the lake.

Is there anyway of stopping the water from coming in from the outside into this cooler or do I just have to take my chances that this won't freeze over the winter since it is below the water line?

Pull the hose from the drive to the water pump and tie up high so water does not siphon in. You may also want to cap the hose as well.

IMHO.......If you can't clear the hose from the drive to the pump of all the water....I'd be concerned that it may freeze. Even though its below the water level.....it can still freeze.

The next best thing would be an engine room heater.....to keep the air above freezing temp.
