Ok we can’t all make a book….

But if you did some project(s) on your boat we can post them here.
And of course with photos it’s much nicer.

Here’s one of my winter service projects.

I wanted to service the raw water system of my Yanmar’s.
So I dismantled the raw water pumps, changed the impellers, renewed the cover plate, cleaned the heat exchangers, renewed the zincs, repainted the parts, changed all the gaskets from the pump, impeller house, thermostat etc and inspect all the hoses.

Here the parts I collected after I dismounted the complete raw water system.

The heat exchangers where not very clogged.

A whole bunch of clamps.

The pumps.

The covers from the impeller house are a little damaged so I bought new ones.

Ready to mount..

I lubricated the shaft and the inside of the pump body and the end cover.
You can use soap or vaseline (petroleum jelly) to help develop prime and prevent damage from dry-running the pump at initial start-up.
I got some impeller lubricant from Johnson
Lubricated impellers should not be stored for extended periods of time.
Engine should be run after installation of a new impeller to wash out the lubrication.

Peter.

Nice work Pete. Do the old impellers look as good up close as they do in the pics? It never makes sense to re-install a used impeller, but if they're as healthy as they look, I'd keep them aboard as secondary spares.

(our favorite summer destination is a weed-fest, so I'm always nervous that the day will come that I'll burn up my spare impellers before getting the intakes over clear water)

Is that paint the official "Yanmar Silver", (I made that up) or just close to it?

I've got to do bellows but I've got this strange problem. I've got this truck in the way that is sort of immobile right now in the garage. lol too lazy to go out and play with ice cold tools at 10*.

I hear that. The boat is nice and toasty, but of course my car chooses the dead of winter notify me that the brake pads are near end-of-life. I'm considering doing a lot of downshifting until April.

Looks real nice Pete!

Do you winterize the engines with Anti freeze or do put an enginer room heater in the ER?

Send a pic when it's all back together...

That's my system lol. Well maybe not till April but atleast till it gets back in the 30's. But its usually not the little stuff that goes wrong at 0*. Its always something urgent that could cause thousands in damage if not tended to immediately. :smt009

Thanks,

The impellers are still in a good shape, so indeed I keep them for spares.
I used original Yanmar paint and gaskets.
The impellers are from Jabsco, and the zincs from boatzincs.com.

Thanks Dom,

I have a heater in my engine room, so I only drained the system.
I know for sure that my engines look like new when I am finished, and I take some pics.

Peter.

Pete,
Thanks for posting the pics of your work. Although the specifics don't apply to my boat, Im always up for a little education & information.

You have a really nice boat there and your maintenance habbits will keep it that way for years to come. Thanks again

Pete looks like a ton of quality work. Good job.
I was hoping of taking all my through hulls out and install stainless. I currently have the plastic ones and as the boat ages really would like to have hard stainless one in there instead of the plastic(in case they're brittle).
