Hi everyone, this is my first post in this forum, and I start with a reallly horribble problem. During work on boat I made a mistake and the glass on the starboardside (not the frontglas) is broken in thousand pieces..
Now I decided to replace it with plexiglas, because I found out, that it is much to expansive to replace it with the original glas from Taylormade, and it will take to much time.

My question, has anyone allready done a replacement of this pane, and has tipps for me? I'm really afraid, that when I lift up the profile on top of the Window, to put in a new pane, the windschield in front will also get broken, because it is very fragile. (only 3 mm thickness).

thanks in Advance and sorry my english ist not the best ;-)

Peter

Sorry to hear that - but yes, it happens. One screw just a little to close to the window and BANG.

It's a pretty easy removal and that front glass is much stronger than you think. Lubrication is the key to making it easier. Spray some silicone up in there. The rubber gasket you see on the sides of the glass is actually one piece - shaped like a U.

Hi Dennis,
thanks for your reply. And yes I know lubrication will make it much easier, so I will use some silicone or soap for that job. Can you tell me following. The plan is to lift up the upper aluminium profile to get new pane in it. Have you any good idea to support the frontpane to this task? Is this critical?
I already disassembled the broken glas and can see the rubber gasket in the profile. Seems to be possible to get a new pane in it.
Good to know that the front pane ist strong enough to do this.

brgds, Peter

Hi Denis, hi alltogether.
My Nightmare has an end, and I installed the new pane succesfully . :) It was really not so difficult, but of course you have to work slow and stay carefully with the frontpane. I cuttet the pane by myself with a circular saw, with special sawblade. It worked very well.

Thank you Dennis.;)

I would be interested in this blade you used to cut tempered glass

Looks great! From where I am, I can't even tell that it's not glass :)

"Special blade"... was this just a fine tooth blade? Or something else?

What thickness of plexi did you use?

Where did he say it’s not glass

What thickness of plexi did you use?

Not very special, just 90 teeth (middle fine) and no interlocked teeth, (hope it's the rigtht word for that). Would also be fine for wood. It was 3mm Plexiglas GS (cast), and same thickness of the glass that was originally built in. The tint is a little bit darker green, but it's difficult to recognize that. :)

Yup - understood. Thanks for the clarification!
