Just got my order from Taylor Made and the profile of the material received is not what I expected. Only 1/2 inch thick at the bottom and not nearly as thick as the cavity presently filled with the dried out foam material. I thought it would be u-shaped top and bottom to slip over the metal, but it is like an upside-down "P". Is this the right gasket?

I replaced mine four years ago and Taylor made knew over the phone what I needed.
It was a gasket like you are saying and it did replace the foam type.
I will look at my boat later today and see which way it went in.

That's the part numbers I got, but it looks nothing like what is shown in post # 31 of that same thread. I wish I could post a photo, but the forum will not let me post a photo, for some wacky reason.
