Looking to repair an ongoing leak across the bottom of the windshield on our 99 400db. I have removed the cover and layers of silicone. The glass is setting on a foam strip and bedded in silicone. It appears the glass will need to be removed to properly clean the frame. Has anyone had this problem and if so how was it addressed. Would an auto glass company be more qualified to handle this repair than the SR dealership? Replacement parts are available from Taylor Made. I would attempt the repair myself but the glass is a little larger than I feel comfortable handling. Thoughts?

I have re-done 2 different front facing widows on my boat. One window shattered when I hit a wave (must not have been set correctly in the first place), the second was just leaking. On the first window, Taylor sent me new glass and new gasket. I set it with the help of a friend who works for a commercial glass company (not a marine company). The second window was just a water leak and the gasket was still OK. Based on your picture, you need a new gasket but you probably don't have to remove the glass unless it is loose. I removed the gasket, cleaned everything really good, used black silicone and re-set the gasket back into the slot. It has worked just fines since then.

let me know if there are any details you need, it was a pretty straight forward repair.

I had the same problem. called taylor and they do not have the glass any longer. would manufacture but needed and order for 15 or so. I ended up re siliconing the outside below the black gasket. I don't have the leak any longer. you may be able to get a glass place to remove the glass but they will tell you it could shatter. I don't know what they would do for a replacement. it might be a costly project.

I have the very same problem with my 2001 400DB. In my case the gasket has shrunken to a point were it is not longer useful. A previous owner attempted to repair the leak with Silicon but it didn't last. Does anyone know were you can get the rubber molding/gasket? Thanks for any and all help.

I have now been resealing my windows using structural grade marine sealant. 1) pull all old gasket material out 2) leave glass in place 3) clean everything out of aluminum channel (very dirty and time consuming process as water is in the channel and made a real mess in there) 4) install new sealant.

Installing the new sealant is a tricky and involved process. You may want to hire a professional glazer or caulker to install the new sealant as the caulking is the finished product. I did the caulking myself with acceptable results but not perfect. I can provide step by step installation of the caulking for those who want to try it.

My window seal on the bottom has several places where previous owner(s) squeezed in clear window sealant in gaps and cracks of the factory black seal, from the inside. I know others with our boat that have the same patchwork. I can say it's worked just fine on my boat. I guess this is common over time. Hard to keep things from flexing and separating as you pound the waves.
