I need to replace both windshields in my boat.

1)… Tempered Glass (light gray tint). I can have glass co swing by my house to make a template. Then order glass ( 3 weeks), finally come back out to install.

2)… Safety Glass (green tint). I can make a template this weekend. Wife drops off to glass co. They cut a couple pieces safety glass and I install the following weekend.

I can’t think of any reason why Tempered Glass would be a priority over Safety Glass.
Need some opinions on this. The original glass was Tempered!

Rest of the sad story: I’ll dig up OldSkool’s DA thread and post.

I am not a glass person but there is a difference. Safety glass is what you have in your car windshield. It is two layers with plastic film that holds it together. Tempered glass is single pain that is heat hardened. I have glass railing and the glass company refued to put in tempered glass for safety reason. I would ask my insurance company about what is acceptable. Do not think I wouldlike to fall into tempered glass and have it break on a boat.

northern: I'm with ya on the Tempered breaking into a milion pieces. Tempered is what was (asuming) was oem to the boat. Safety with its safer features seems to be more readily available and easier to work with.

I would think that a boat windshield would be like a car windshield but I guess not. An auto has safety front windshield and tempered side and back windows.

I cannot think of any reason not to use saftey glass (with the film in between) especially since tempered glass shatters into a million pieces when it breaks other than if it comes out of the frame, a big piece of glass may hit you in the face.

Maybe a quick call to Taylor Made to ask the question.

Interesting thread.
