Windless wiring help

Had to rewire the helm with toggles do to faulty pads and EIMs, all done but I am having trouble with the windless. I have identified the wiring but I cant figure out which pair turned power on and which pair runs the motor. 2 are under the helm which I am guessing are the power and 3 are in the engine bay which I am guessing run the motor. Since I don't have power to the winless I cant v meter out the cable combinations. Any help much appreciated.

I would get (or download) your owners manual and check the wiring diagrams to verify.

If they used a similar schema to my 2004 340SDA then the Blue and Green go to the control module the operates the up and down from the forward EIM and the white/blue, white/red and red/violet go to the Master Solenoid from the AFT EIM. The wiring diagram should give you the wire numbers that are tagged on also.

Thanks, I have the manual but I am stuck on the solenoid. I have 12v to a toggle and the blue and green for movement. Its the solenoid that has me confused, power should be switched w 12v to the plunger but there are three wires to it not one from the EIM. W/B is ground side, W/R is 12v trigger so what is Red and violet???

I would need to review the wiring diagram but the contactor/control module generally has three wires. Up, Down and Positive Voltage (not load) for switching.

Red w/Violet sounds like possibly a fuse, but like Kevin said, would have to look at the wiring schematic to be sure. Look closer in your manual - there should be a section dedicated to the windlass wiring schematic and that will give you all the answers.

Most likely your solenoid is the type that has two coils and is stable in both positions. What this means is that you apply a voltage to one of the solenoid coils and it turns on. Once it is on you can remove the voltage and it stays in the on position. To turn it off you apply voltage to the other coil and the solenoid turns off. You can then remove that voltage and it stays off.
Use a single pole double throw momentary switch to control the solenoid.

So for those that ever need this information, red/w and blue/w connect to the power solenoid and run with a DPDT rocker. Red is on Blue is off. the red/Violet run an indicator lamp for the solenoid when powered on. Blue lets anchor out and green retrieves with a SPDT powered with 12v.

This is helpful. I installed a windlass on my 290 Sun Sport last last summer. The boar was prewired for it but I wasn't sure how to connect a solenoid and the dash panel to control from there. I just used the foot pedals for now.
