Windlass issue

Hi there,

The motor works but the connection to the gear is gone..... what should I start with? We are here talking about a Lewmar, don't have the model.

You'll need the model number to get it fixed. It sounds like a clutch problem to me. Lewmar has a web site. Why don't you get their tech support number and give them a call? They should be able to point you in the right direction. At the very least, you should be able to figure out which one you have so that you can update this thread with the model so someone might be able to help you.

It has been difficult to find any information about my Lewmar BUT I found this video which shows exactly the unit I have:

Get into Lewmars website. Its a little confusing, and you have to dig a little but, all of their manuals are there. I didnt get a real good look at the gypsy but, what I did see looks similar to my '95 model Ocean Concept (which has been replaced by another model) As mentioned, it might just be clutch tension if the motor is turning, I would also start there, you'll need the wrench (a winch handle) to adjust it.

Hi, I phoned and unfortunately for the model of windlass I have, no more spare parts. I managed to disassemble the motor-gearbox and look at what I found:







Will any of the members care to send me a contact where I can get these parts? Thanks!

If it was me, I would clean it up real good, grease it up, put it back together and see if it would work. (Im cheap)
