Can some of you with a factory windlass on a 300DA post some pics of the install? My boat doesn't currently have one and after a recent struggle with anchor retrieval, the Admiral has told me we NEED a windlass. With that in mind, I'd like to see how they were installed originally so I can do a proper job. Also would like recommendations on brands, styles and sizes. I would also like to know how the wiring is routed up to the bow. I'm guessing the rigging tube under the V-berth would be the best, shortest route for cables? All infor welcomed, thanks! OK, lets see some pics.

I'm not sure about factory, probably a old rope only unit. On my last boat, and most recently my 330 I've put on a Lewmar Pro1000 top mount unit. Quick install and it works great.

I replaced the original rope only Benson Windlass on my 300 Sundancer with a piece of crap, and I got what I paid for. After a couple of years with that, I treated myself to a "Good" brand rope chain windlass. I loved it.
Anyway, we ran new thicker gauge wire for the "Good" windlass. It was a pretty easy run along the starboard side from the rope locker back to the bilge. The hanging closet, and space below the galley were great access points for snaking the wires.

How big of a unit did you use? I'm currently leaning towards a Lewmar Pro-fish 1000 with free fall feature.

If you meant me, I used a Good F850. It cost a little more than other brands, but it was worth every penny. I had it on my boat for about two years before I sold the boat, used it frequently, and never had even a hint of a problem with it.
