Should the helm switch windlass work while the D/C power is off
and the A/C switch is on A/C charge only?? NO ENGINE SWITCHES ON.......

What has to be switched on for the helm windlass to operate?

Mine has power to it full time If I shut everything off it still works ..

Mmmmmm:huh: Thanks Wayne....Ill take another look at it tomorrow...

Just remember Bill, Mine's 22yrs old maybe that's the way they did it back then ??.

My boat has a breaker under the stairs that says "Windlass" that has to be switched on in order for the helm windlass control to work. It's bright red and you have to push it in with some effort in order for the helm switch to be hot. It's a safety feature so you do not accidently drop the hook while you are underway.

If you can't figure it out, call Sea Ray. They are pretty good at answering questions like this.

Will do thanks :smt001

Bill, ours has a breaker switch at the dash that needs to be in the on position for the windlass toggle to function, also the battery switch(es) at the main need to be in the on setting also.

Right you are.....We have a rocker switch, but forgot about a toggle switch i forgot about as im thinking about it today.:smt021..I guess the toggle has to be pushed forward or backward to get the rocker switch to operate..
The battery switch was on when we tryed it at first...
I forgot about the toggle switch...THANKS.......
That toggle must be a safety switch.....As sbw1 has on his boat........

Bill, the rocker switch is what turns the power on and off, the toggle controls the windlass.

GOT IT........THANKS....:thumbsup::thumbsup:

You may have to pull out on the toggle to actuate it. Don't force it, thinking it is stuck.

DID that today works great.thanks.....:smt038

Remember, there are actually two power sources required to operate the windlass...
The main power is wired directly from the batteries, with an inline fuse or breaker, straight to the windlass.

The control at the helm requires a separate 12v power source- usually in the form of a switched breaker at the helm. This circuit is what provides the low amperage current to operate the solenoid at the windlass. So, if the windlass fails to operate, both sources of power to the windlass need to be checked. Without power to the solenoid, it won't operate even if there's power to the windlass.

Hope this helps.
