350mag B3,
These scratches are on an 05 340DA. I must say I was very dissapointed when I first saw the boat as it was probably the worst I have seen, especially for an 05. I know the blue is bad for showing scratches but I don't know if I can live with it being this bad. Will these compound out? In my opinion, it shows the lack of care given to the boat on the whole as I would never let it get this bad. I dont like the idea of possibly having the worst looking blue boat on the water, what do you think?

Well, that pic didnt work, lets try again

I know nothing about buffing but i do see the pic. :smt001

Apparently I posted seconds before Todd. Now if I could only figure out how to post those huge pics I see everyone else posting?? I'm using photobucket and posting with the IMG setting but I still have to scale it down to be within the size limits? SB

Are you sold on a blue hull? They will come out but this is a problem that wont go away. I must admit the blue hulls are absolutely beautiful (had it on my 260DA) but the verdict is still out on the long term reliability of the SR colored hulls.

Not at all. Its my wife who really likes it. I prefer pewter or white myself. I have always wondered what everyone will have to do when their boats are 10-15yrs old, paint with awlgrip?

I have a blue hull and there were a few minor scratches that the detailers were able to get out, but I don't know what they used...What's the story on the boat? If the rest of the boat is in great shape-especially the engines, genny, props etc, then you can figure out the cost to hire someone to professionally detail and go that way, or make your purchase contingent on getting them out to your satisfaction.

Good luck whatever you do.

Really??? When I post a picture, I use photobucket as well, but I dont have that problem.

I scale the photo down with Photoshop BEFORE I load it up to photobucket, usually around to 750x500. When I save it, I do choose a medium resolution....I'm not sure if that matters or not.

So, I upload it, copy the IMG code into the post and......

Yes, those marks will easily buff out because they are only surface marks and do not extend through the top color coat. I removed a few marks like this last week from mine during the spring wax session with the porter cable and nothing more than the Flagship Marine Wax.

The color coat is surprisingly thin. Last year, we became too intimate with a neighbors anchor in his windlass, while rafting up and put two 1” long marks in the blue hull to the white underneath. But after a little gel coat touch up, buffing and waxing it looks good as new. All colors will show bruises, scrapes and dings more than the white.

You should be able to get the scratches out for sure.

On the picture posting. Yes, go ahead and find your photobucket picture. All you have to do is click once on the line says IMG code.
That should automatically "Copy" it to your clipboard.
Then go into this page and paste it into a reply

It will automatically resize it to fit here.

Trying Todds advise

The rest of the boat did show really well. Just needs attention to the fiberglass. The topsides are oxidized a decent amount but that I know is no big deal. If this attempt at a pic works, I'll throw up another one or two. I am glad to hear that most of the scratches should come out. Guess I'll be really busy with my new PC buffer:thumbsup: There are a few gouges though, but I'll leave them alone. 2 repairs had been made to the blue from delivery scratches and they look horrible but you dont notice them unless you are really looking. Thanks SB

that's a pretty boat!

Newbie.............When you download pictures for photobucket, in the Browse Section there is a line that shows image size in fine print with the word options in parenthisis. Click on that and select "Message Board". Every picture you download from that point on will be sized properly for the board. The ones you posted are too big or too small.

Once the pictures are downloaded in the correct size just left click on the line marked "IMG Code" below the picture. Then when you are typing your reply on CSR you can right click in your reply and select paste and the correct characters and link will be put in your CSR reply. Any pictures you have already downloaded which are the wrong size can be resized by clicking on Edit above the picture.

The first picture you posted is probably the only one that would allow me to offer an opinion on that hull (if you post it in the correct size). The others do not show the condition of the hull in enought detail.

Nice Boat!

Unless you can see white through the hazed area, you should have no problem taking the scratches out.

Try some cleaner wax with a PC or Makita buffer, that alone may do it. If not try some finessit II. That will certainly take the scatched out and shine it up.

Are these scatches from a fender?

Dave

Yes, fenders are the cause. They must have never bothered to clean off their fenders
Dave, my screen is a 32" moniter and the last set of pics looks great on mine screen. Are they too small, too big or just lacking quality? I have always gone in and resized them after uploading them but can never figure out how to make them appear large on the initial post. At least I know how to do it in replies now. Thanks SB

Nice looking boat. I need to install some under swim step lights.

Hey....did I see a big snailbote in here?

The 2 pictures of the entire boat looks great. It's the small picture of the hazed area that is difficult to see.

If it's a lot of fine scatches from a fender it will buff right out.

The trick to buffing it out to not let the buffer stay in one spot.
Keep it moving, use a light touch, let the machine do the work, and do it in multiple steps.

Put some cleaner wax or Finessit on the buffer, buff, getting a feel for it, then wipe clean with a micro towel. Repeat again until shiny. Then wax.

Please don't use a machine on your blue hull right away. You will burn the gelcoat and make is look hazey. Try a product by 3m called Imperial Hand Glaze. It should take out 80-100 percent of what I was looking at in the picture. After the hand glaze, use a good quality wax to put a nice coat on it. I have a 1989 and I think sea ray does a greta job with their gelcoat. Mine has maroon detail on the sides..
