I have a 1997 270 DA. Will the Clarion helm remote work with any other system? Will the "old" helm remote be compatible with newer Clarion systems?

I doubt it will work with non Clarion product. You could try and see if it works with a new Clarion. If not you could upgrade to a new remote (I see the newer ones have a different model number.)

No, it won't work with a different brand. Yes, it might work with a new head unit. When I replaced the head unit, I replaced the remote with one that has an LCD display. Note that if you replace a non-display remote with one having a display, you may need to replace the extension cable since the old one might not support bi-directional communication.

I have the older Clarion deck with cassette and separate 6 disc CD changer. I may have a loose cable from the changer to deck as I get a "CONN" blinking on the deck's display every once in awhile. I was going to upgrade just the remote unit if I could but with this new error periodically I may just have to bite the bullet and put a unit in the can handle an iPod aux and get the new remote with LCD display.

I can tell you that the remotes for the Clarion XMD1 will work wtih Clarion's up to CMD5.

Todd, I know little to help with your stereo problems but if you want to use an Ipod get a cassette adapter. Mine came with my Sky-fi XM and worked on my Monaco until I replaced the 85 cassette stereo with a new modern one. It now plugs in the Ipod jack on the new stereo, so I know it is the same jack. Hope this is helpful,

I upgraded my stock Clarion to a Clarion M475 so I'd have an input for my mp3 player. The dash remote will work but it will not control the mute.
