Will it still work??

I'm not too terribly informed on Satellite specs, but I'm pretty sure the entire dish was submerged including what I thought was called the LNB but apparently is not. The side-by-side white thing on the end that points towards the sky............ was under water. Will it still work?? The dish was given to me and replacements are cheap but I was just hoping that my swollen Ohio river didn't ruin my free-bee

If not powered up and not submierged too long and dried out carefully you might have a shot. It's a crap shoot but take your time and open up the componets as best you can to dry them good luck!

LNB - Low Noise Block converter. The unit has two jobs. The first is to amplify the extremely low power microwave satellite signal up to a level that can be sent to the receiver box. The amplifier must be a very high quality unit without adding any electronic noise to the signal since noise would overpower the signal. The second function is to convert a block of microwave frequencies to lower frequencies. The higher the frequency, the more higher the loss in the signal cable and therefore the more expensive the cable needs to be. By heterodyning down the frequency, cheaper cable can be used.

I'd replace it. It's pretty sensitive and if there's a short in the unit, it could damage the receiver from which the LNB derives its power.

Best regards,
Frank

I have an old one on the side of the house. I'm not using. I may be able to send it to you if you want to re-use the dish? I just upgraded to HD back in November.

It's a DirectTV unit

I use Dish Network, it's a dish500 I think. Sad thing is the only reason it was in any peril was because the Ohio river is out of it's banks.. It's up over 52', you should see the rest of the marina, the parking lot is loaded with debris including a large red channel marker (nun-bouy)..
