Will a 290 Sea Ray fit into a 28'x10' slip?

On the Missisippi and up the St Croix it is common for a boat to extend beyond the slip in the mom & pop owned marinas. Two slips down from me a 330 is in a 30 ft slip.

jabs: I'd pop for the wider slip.

Wow, surprised the marina allows you to place it there, esp with the swim platform you are more like 31.5
I am in a 30' slip and there is a 290 just down the way, pretty tight but it works, can't imangine a 28x10 would be any fun docking by yourself.

Good Luck

As a newb, I wanted a bigger slip. There are times, even backing into a 50' slip, that it seems to have 'mysteriously shrunk somehow'. Good point about the boat having room to move, too. Get the bigger slip. Save yourself the worry.

When I bought my boat I inherited the slip. This was a 12'W x 30' covered slip.

My nose hung out from under the cover by several feet, and with an 11'4" beam, you can imagine how tight it was to get her in to a 12' W slip.

I did not have too much problem and really enjoyed being able to work and clean the boat from the finger piers on each side as it was very close reach.

Docking was always tight and a crew to help both onboard and dockside was helpfull.

My current slip is 14'W x 40'L covered. It is much easier to dock and is covered from all the elements. Although it is more of a reach from the finger piers for water filling, cleaning etc.

I do not miss the narrow "barely fit" slip at all.

Give yourself a little room on your slip.

I had my old 260 DA with an 8 ft beam in a 9 ft wide slip the first year I was at the town docks. It was a nightmare! Docking was tough on calm days, windy days I didnt even leave the slip( there was no protection, right on the bay). I also had to devise loops to go around the poles to keep her centered while allowing for tide. Bent my starboard bowrail before perfecting it though......Spend the dough, get the bigger slip. It will save you money and headaches in the long run! my $0.02. Todd

28 x 10... nope, too tight.
The boat's probably 30' long plus you need some room. I'd say 32' would be more like it (unless they don't mind you sticking out). For the width I like 18" at least so 9' plus 3' is 12' wide.
32' x 12'.
Just my 2 cents...

Most marinas I have encountered allow for 10% overhang on the back end of the slip. If thats the case hes allowed 30.8 feet for the 28 foot slip.

Not worth the headache of docking in that tight of a slip. Boating is supposed to be fun and relaxing. Docking can be enough stress without having to squeeze into a slip that is technically to small for your boat.

I have a 1995 290 9' 8" beam I put it in a 10'x24' slip. Don't do it not worth the headache.
I have even thought about downsizing. But I do like my 290.

Coming close on a 290 Sea Ray and was wondering if it would fit safely in a 28'x10' slip. I called the marina and she thought it would be fine but it's a $1,000 more for next size up. Thanks again! PS t's a lot of work trading and getting a new used boat:smt101

I would never try that myself, this is coming from a person in 320da in a 13' wide slip. I have no problems getting in the slip, but having just 7 spare inches in the clear (I have dock roller's) probably should not be recommended to the faint of heart. I don't see how a 290 could survive it myself. Two words, *Bigger Slip*.... Best of luck.
