Hi, I put this in maintenance too...I'm having starting troubles.
I can only get my boat going after tapping or wiggling the shifter just right.
I think I have isolated the neutral starting switch and tried kind of lubing it up and wiggling connections. I can't figure how to get it off because it is a white plastic tube and it is around the shaft part of the shift cable, (with two wires). But if I could see a picture of it I could tell more. But places don't have pictures of these things- "no image available" online. Any good sites for pictures of parts? Any ideas? I'm thinking of "jumping" or bypassing the switch this weekend, just to see if it will start..
So, It is a Morse S twin shifter in a 1980-81 SRV255.
Thanks, Pal

Well, So yesterday I deactivated (disabled) the neutral safety switch. It starts better, but the wiggling still needs to be done sometimes.
So I started wiggling the transmission arm where the red shifter cable connects, and that seemed to work better than wiggling the shift lever, which makes sense.
So it seems like there are two "safety switches" to prevent starting in gear, ? or
Maybe a switch on the tranny is worn and can't tell the tranny is in neutral?
Any ideas? Thanks...

I would say check the momentary shift Kill, but I don't think that would keep it from turning over.

Isn't that dangerous??? the boat may move when it starts up????

yeah, they say it is because the boat can start in gear if the shifters (upper and lower) are not in neutral. If it turns out the NSS is indeed the problem, then I'll get a new one and put it in.
But I think there's another little problem. Like someone suggested here a while ago, when you wiggle the shift lever that's right down there on the tranny, it seems to help. That would make sense if there were also a problem sensing neutral down there at the tranny...

Right, I agree that it could be that but you wouldn't think it would be.. (cause it should still turn over at least?)
But let's say the motor's between shift "kill" function is always on? Could be that, couldn't it?
