Just curious how everyone solves this problem. I have my 10 foot beam boat on a trailer and it is no fun. I have gotten one ticket for oversize load then got the wide load permit. Permit is not good on Sundays or Holidays (my usual days off). My permit is one year and nearly expired. Without keeping my boat in the water, whats a solution? I hate to downsize but it may be my only option.....

I have an 11 foot wide beam on our 300 DA. It just means I have to go earlier and stay later! In Washington and Idaho the only real restrictions are the bookends of the three holiday weekends. I have to be off the road in Washington by noon and Idaho by 4 pm on the Friday before the holidays. I couldn't travel on the 4th this year so I came home on Tuesday the 5th. The rest of the weekends, it's not a problem as far as travel limitations. We're able to move the boat on Friday and Sunday. I'd suggest moving to a different state!

I agree. I tow a 87 300da also with a Dually 4x4 diesel. Not a problem in NV. Socal I had to get an oversize permit and file a road plan to move the boat with Caltrans. They approve your route and you pay a fee of course. Major PITA. California Highway Patrol will pull you over for sure if they catch you.

I ended up storing the Boat near Lake Mead. Perhaps find a storage unit near your launch facility?

Cheers

Been pulling mine for 3 years now and no problems.
How the hell did they notice a 10' wide load?
8'.5" to 10' is not noticeable on the move.

Unless the cop was Boat lover???? Hummmmmmmmmmm

Please, I do that for a living. Nowadays with states being broke they will send their revenuers out and just take your cash for anything and anything is game. The restrictions suck. I wish those damn atheists would work on the no oversized movements on Sunday rather than worry about the pledge of allegiance.

The go early, stay late rule is best. Other than that you are all done trailering.

Mine is 11 feet and believe me, the cops know that most trailers are 8'6" wide fender to fender so anything outside the fenders is too wide. We do this for a living (hauling oversize loads) and have become the states new "cash cows"

Move closer to your ramp. :smt001 I live about 6 miles from where I put my boat in the water. I only do need to trailer it twice a year (unless there's a hurricane coming), and so I don't bother with a permit...

Especially you guys in New York State. I am almost to the point of refusing to operate my Peterbilt up there anymore due The Emperial New York Motor Carrier Cops. They are the worst of all 48 lower states by far. I will only go up there for high dollar loads, rare to find that up there with your industry gone, and then only run after hours. DOT seems to have banker hours.

DOT up here has been given the permission to work varied hours at their own descretion depending on what they see so it is not even possible to assume that they will not be out. i have seen them out Sunday mornings at 6am at some of their favorite spots. Now they can be seen cruising the highways at 8am as well as 8pm. i guess it depends on whether life is good at the house or not and if life is not good at the house I can assure you life is going to be real bad on the road. 7am on a Sunday morning a few months back one of my trucks was going through a small town near here (less than 20 minutes from the shop) and got pulled over. The DOT officer one of the 3 lights in the tripple tree was out and wrote him a ticket for it. When my driver said he had just done his dailey inspection and asked if he could get out and see which light it was he was told no because it would be unsafe to do so. The driver went to his delivery about 30 miles away and could not find a light out. When he came back to the shop we hit every light back there to simulate a vibration and shook all the wire connections to check them and the issue could not be duplicated.

I sent the ticket in along with a letter explaining that the officer would not let the driver see the light out condition and apologized to the court saying I was sorry that the light issue couldn't be fixed because the we could not either locate a light out or do anything to cause a light to go out. I got the ticket and fine in the mail and paid it. Like I said earlier, they have found their "Cash Cow"
