Why I chose a Prestige over a Sea Ray ...

The video and your comments say it all.... beautiful!!!. In my list I had Azimuth and Fairline (Ok...... Sunseeker and Princess as well), but it looks like Prestige is now part of the wish list; my sincere congratulations!.

PS. I am impressed how our members go larger in size of boats from the first one to the current one looking at the history in their names..... I can't wait to see what is next after my 290!!!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I am really impressed with the layout. Having kids of similar ages I understand the need for staterooms!

That lower helm looks like it has perfect sight lines I wonder how the view is running on plane?

Enjoy!

Congrats on the Prestige. I too have to agree that our tour of the Prestige boats at the Ft. Lauderdale show had us very impressed. Prestige maximizes every square inch of usable space and that full beam master stateroom is huge and a big plus that it's private too! And forward, Prestige offer's two more staterooms that can all sleep as single berths. Sea Ray has driven me away from being interested in their larger boats and newer boats because they're all double queens. I have a 11 yo boy and 14 yo girl who refuse to sleep together so Sea Ray really screwed me. Prestige offering the scissor bed v-berth gives you both options. It angers me that Sea Ray is so limiting.

I almost bought a Jeanneau NC 14 from Josh two years ago. I opted for my 470DA instead but still stay in close touch with him. He thinks he has me earmarked for a 50 or 55 (non flybridge). I really like the 55 because besides being 5 feet longer it has a lounge on the roof that I freaking love. Again, Prestige is very clever and efficient in their design and I think Sea Ray is falling short in that regard. I will say that on the inside, Prestige's fit and finish is a little Ikea like. Floors squeak, walls and ceilings very thin, but as Homeport points out, for the price those things are worth overlooking. I'm glad to hear it's offered with Zeus too.

JamesT,

The 550 was appealing to me because it's actually 58.9 feet while the 500 is 49.10 feet. That's almost a 9 foot difference and it allows for the extra stateroom with the crew quarters. I almost had to leave my marina, however. The slips are only 50 feet. I needed to move to a T-head but there are only three of them. Fortunately, one opened up the week I purchased the boat. It was meant to be, I suppose. Anyhow, my point is, on the Chesapeake there aren't many marinas that have an abundance of slips for 59 foot boats. You guys up in Boston are a bit classier than we are so you may have biggest slips for bigger boats. And... if Josh has you earmarked for a 500 or 550, I imagine one of them is in your future.

Michael, I didn't know that about the 9' in length. I did feel like the 50 was not a big enough jump from my 470 to justify a move so I'll hold out for a 55 but the prices have to come down a bit. You at Osprey Pt or Haven Harbor?

JamesT,

We're at Osprey Point. Do you come to the area in the summer? If so, let's hook up. My family and I are down at the boat pretty much, well, always!

Michael, thank you for the post. I am a fan of the prestige line, as you point out the layout of this boat is perfect for us as we have the same interests in boating. Aft galley and private entrance for master is key. Also add the split VIP, perfect. I don't know why this isnt a standard feature in all manufacturers. I did happen to like the crew quarters. best of luck and enjoy her in Florida. Our dream but still a few years away for us.

Boat Guy,

We're in Annapolis weekly during the Spring and Summer. Champaign on the Flybridge in Ego Alley sounds perfect. Although, I don't think I have enough room on the bow for you to land your helicopter. Will that be a problem?

- Michael

Congrats! It is a beautiful boat, I hope you and your family enjoy making many memories on her.

Michael, yes we come to the Chesapeake every summer in July (last 4 years straight) and O.P. is always our first and favorite stop after the 8 hour trip from Longport, NJ (35 miles north of Cape May, 10 miles south of Atlantic City). Last July we were on the dock at O.P. right near a 50 Prestige Sport and grey 470 Sea Ray DA (Larry & Theresa). We had a fluid leak that kept us at O.P. for three days (not a bad place to break down). About a week later we ran into Josh who just finished hosting a Prestige rendezvous at the Hyatt in Cambridge. Maybe you were there? Or did you just buy the boat? If the winter stays mild, I may move the boat to Annapolis in March and spend the kids' spring break week there, then come to the boat on weekends after that. We did that in 2014 and loved it. July is a very hot period on the Bay and we don't know if we can hack it again this year, thinking of Long Island Sound instead. We'll see....

Jim, what a small world!

Larry and Theresa are friends. In fact, I saw them on Sunday. The 50 ft Prestige to which you're referring is owned by another good friend of mine named Howard. His previous boat was a 42 Sundancer. When Josh brought a 550 for me to see about a year and a half ago, Howard also saw it and that was how he first connected with Josh. My 420 DB was in slip D1, two and three over, respectively, from Howard and Larry. However, this upcoming summer, I'll be on the other side of the marina on the B T-head because the 550 won't fit in the D1 slip. It's a bummer that I have to move away from my gang but it's either that or leave the marina.

In fact, if you or other CSR members visit Osprey Point this summer for a few days, you can use my T-head. I've got 100 feet and my boat is 59 feet so there is extra room. Your boat may be a little big but if I move mine to the very end it might work.

A friend of mine is the Prestige dealer in Wrightsville Beach NC. They are awesome boats, got to spend some quality time on one this past summer. I'm sure you will enjoy yours.

Michael, small world indeed! Thanks for the offer on your T-head! Maybe we'll do another summer in MD. Kids still love the tried and true Chesapeake and are resisting LI Sound so we'll see. Out of curiosity, with whom do you winterize?

Well, I haven't taken delivery on my current boat so it's still in Baltimore. However, typically, I winterize and store my boat on the hard at Scandia Marine Services at Whitehall Marina in Annapolis. I actually trust them and the principle, Erik Lostrom, is a naval architect so I find his breadth of knowledge is extensive. Even though I keep my boat in Rock Hall, I prefer to use Scandia across the Bay for service and winter storage rather than Haven Harbour or Gratitude. In the past I've used Haven a number of times for service and winter storage. Put it this way. I'm willing to go all the way to Annapolis for service and storage. That should tell you something.

A friend of mine has one in Naples. Over the holidays I had the opportunity to visit him and spend some time on the boat. We were attending a party at the boat next to his. All I can say about the interior is wow, what a great, great layout. The fit and finish were top notch. It was wonderful.

Congratulations!
