Whooooly Crap!

Back around 2013 or so I was on the turnpike coming home from work and a set of wheels came off a tractor trailer trailer. We were doing a normal 70 or so. They rolled and hit the median and bounced about 10' up then back down on our side thankfully. I was the closest one to them in our lane and I was about 200' or so back. There was a line of cars coming the other way though and it would have been bad. The tires/wheels rolled about 1/4 mile and stopped at a pulloff so the driver stopped there too. A couple of pieces flew up and hit my truck just above the drivers headlight (2013 Ram 1500). Put 2 little dings in the fender. I pulled over and got the guys info. Had a few tell me that I would have a problem with insurance because the truck owner wasn't the same as the trailer owner but it went smooth.
Not nearly as bad as the video in this post but could have been if those wheels would have went over the median.

A guy I knew from my kids' high school that died that way. A coworker needed a ride to the airport and asked this guy spur of the moment. He was driving north on a 10 lane divided highway with a concrete median. Truck coming the other way lost a tire and it managed to travel 1/4 mile without hitting anything until it jumped the median and went through his windshield on the fly. Hit him square in the chest. He was able to get the car stopped on the shoulder before he died. That's when you know your number is up. He was a great guy, never had anything but a kind word.
 
Had a recap come off a trailer just as I was passing it on the Sunrise hwy on Long Island years ago. I was driving a Jeep Cherokee, it went right over the top missed the windshield by maybe an inch. Still to this day I do not waste any time passing trucks.
 
Yikes. You guys familiar with western PA I was westbound on the PA turnpike about 15-20 miles from the Ohio line. Between Cranberry and Beaver Falls

I am shocked how many people seem to hang out beside semis on the interstate, I get around them as quick as possible.
 
I travel on the interstate daily. Two things piss me off. The people who think they own the left lane doing slower speed blocking traffic and the douche waffles that are in the left lane moving faster then me (I am in the center lane) that as they get into my blind spot, start matching my speed until we catch up to a semi and I have to brake. Then they accelerate…
I always use the cruise control and the third group are the people who pass me, pull in front of me and slow down. So then I change lanes and pass them, and eventually move back into the center lane. Then they decide to go faster, pass me and pull into the center lane and slow down. Not brake checking me… just enough that I creep back up on them while maintaining a steady speed.

I had something fall from the air ..never saw it coming... I was doing 80mph and it hit my sunroof.... glass exploded into a million pieces and came raining down on me. The sound was deafening....shock was real... never knew what the thing was or where it came from....since that day I keep the shade closed
 
Got to love Road Queen 4x4's with those type of wheels on them. When driving the 987 always give semis a lane when I pass them.

Had a buddy drove long haul semis. Next door neighbor. He told me never drive next to one. Ever. If front tire blows out it’s coming in your lane and taking you out and aint a dam thing driver can do about it. Stay back or pass quickly. No in between.
 
I had a semi blow a tire in front of me years ago - a peice of the tire hit at the top corner of the windshield. Broke the windshied, dented in the roof - about 2k of damage (and this was a long time ago) to my old Volvo 740. I could no beleive how hard that peice of tire hit me -- I give those guys a wide berth! Playing chicken, brake checking whatever with a semi is just a fools errand, you will never come out on top of that one.
I will say the driver was pretty nice, we pulled over, he gave me his info and made sure I was alright, but in the end what do you do, he blew a tire, it happens.

Also, another time when I lived in Atlanta, a wheel came off a car on the downtown connector and went bouncing past me in the left hand lane. Thankfully it hit the back of a big truck and ended up on the shoulder without really hitting anyone. People barley paid attention to it!
 
Craziest thing i ever seen. Coming home on southern Baltimore beltway there ia a dump the deer feed at. Im in right lane pickup in left lane just a nose in front of me.
I see a deer come running from the left, brake check. Pickup never saw it. Instant!
He slammed into deer and wow did it collapse the front on that truck.
As deer comes spinning dead across my lane (right) i hit brakes harder. Eclipse dam i loved that car. Deer spins across me by feet. Totally missed me.
Last thing i saw was F150 pull to left shoulder front end all fkd up! Crazy.

That actually happens more than you would think. I replace quite a few sunroof glass every year.
