I have an '87 Seville mid cabin. In the center of the rub rail on the transom there is a square metal badge that simply says "Frank Pillsbury". I can't seem to find out why it's on there, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Back then it was "feel good" thing Sea Ray did - some dealers continued it for a short time after Sea Ray stopped. It was a little plaque that would say who the boat was originally "built for".

That's the jist of it, but if you want more there's a couple threads already on this forum about this. You can probably find it with the search tool.

If you decide to take the plaque off, some will say leave it on the boat somewhere. Not me. I leave the superstitions to the sailboaters. Replace it with one that reads "Mine now, get over it"

Frank Pillsbury was a large Sea Ray dealer in Texas.
The plate was a cast mold, identifying the selling S/R Dealer.
It was always installed on the gunwale molding, centered at the transom.
It's not the "build especially for" plaque.

Hi,
I am Franklin Pillsbury. My family was the oldest & Largest Sea Ray Boat Dealer West of the Mississipi River. The dealership is now a MarineMax store in Lewisville Texas.
The nameplate on the gunwahale molding was one of our trade marks. My two sons are still selling Sea Rays with MarineMax.

Welcome aboard, Franklin!

When did you start your business with Sea Ray? It's good to hear from older Sea Ray dealers. We've been approached numerous times by MM, but so far have resisted the temptation. What finally did it for you?

And there you have it, direct from the source! I don't think I've ever seen a question answered as directly as that one. Welcome Franklin, glad to have you on the forum.

You bet....anything Sea Ray 1989 and older I will be glad to help with.
Franklin

Welcome to CSR. Dealer, eh?

Now that you ask... We were wondering if you could arrange a "group buy". How about you see how much of a discount you could get us if we (CSR) would order say... 50 48DAs and/or DBs all at the same time?

We could keep the plant running for a year or so...
