Who sells good starters?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but It's considered a reverse rotation because it rotates counter clockwise when viewed from the "rear" of the motor, which faces the bow of the boat.

When viewed from the crankshaft (or stern), its a standard clockwise rotation of the crankshaft.

Read Post #35 a few times, it explains it very well.
No, your wrong. That would be a left hand motor even if it was standing straight up or straight down ,sideways, or front to rear.
.Engine direction is by the flywheel no matter how the motor is facing
Engine direction has no bearing on how the trans or prop is turning for transmission applications.
ALL I/O`s are left hand engines

OK. I'm not going crazy here. In the pic this is the way the starter turns. It will turn free the other way. SO that means the flywheel turns the way I described in my first pic. FACT..I'm not going crazy...lol

I’ve often heard motors in twin engine boats referred to as either standard (typical) or reverse (not typical) rotation. That’s what I meant when I typed “reverse” (opposite of standard) rotation.
Sorry for the confusion.
To clarify my other post: I thought that Mercruiser stopped making other than standard rotation (like a car motor turns) motors in the late 80’s.

Then it is a reverse rotation motor .The manual lists the 8.1 as LH rotaion
Can you post the engine serial number
? It turns looking at the gear side or the back side of the starter

It rotates the same way a typical car engine rotates.
Clockwise when viewed from the crank pulley and counterclockwise when viewed front the flywheel end.

My previous post (#35) is an image taken from the OEM Mercruiser Shop manual for 8.1 and 496. I don't think the manual is wrong.
But watch the following video. Pay attention to 1.3 minutes into the video when they show the back of the engine and they hit the starter.
