Who has bought/sold your boat on ebay? Ive decided to sell and just curious about different channels and experience with them.

I found my last boat on eBay, and sold it via advertising on eBay. Both times we did the transactions seperate from the auction. I find it to be GREAT at getting your boat out there. I'm in IN, and the boat was in PA when I found it on eBay. After emailing back and forth, I bought the boat two months later. It did not have any bids when it was on eBay. If your reserve price isn't met it costs $8 to list it, and $150 if it sells.

When I went to sell it, I put it up on eBay and had a lot of inquires. Someone from TN drove up to see it and bought it on the spot.

Thats just my experience though.

I have bought and sold stuff on e-bay but my Favorite is Craigs List I bought and re-sold enough cars to but my boat which I found on Craigs list. Eather way is good if it all works out just watch out for the scammers. On Craigs List I set it where they have to call me other wise you will get a lot of spam or scammers.

I found my last 2 boats on ebay. Bought them both after the bids had ended. Sold my last one on ebay also. No one bid my reserve but I was contacted after the bids had ended and sold it to the first one who saw it. Be sure to include your email address and phone # for more Information, in your ad. You'll get a lot of calls if it's priced right. Ebay does a great job of advertising for you for short money. Be careful of people overseas looking to buy. Canada seems to be ok. Several Canadians contacted me about my boat.
Good Luck,
Mike

Bought our current boat after auction was over off ebay. That's how we found her. Also sold my Harley on ebay outside of the auction to a guy in Canada. Works good for me.

I listed my last boat on Ebay and got a lot of inquiries. The person that ended up buying the boat was one of those inquiries. We finalized the sale after the auction was over. It's a great way to get exposure for short money.

What a pain in the butt. You'd think people would be nicer or even cordial if they are trying to get a deal from you. I dont HAVE to sell the boat... Especially to one of these guys.

So far Ive gotten questions from bidders leading with:

"Your obviously not a boater..."

"Boy, Lots of red flags there with all the new stuff..."

"Unless you tell me your reserve, Im not bidding..."

and the list goes on...

I find my current boat on E-Bay....actually used the "Buy it Now" feature. However, when I showed up to do the survey, the boat was not as represented. I was able to negiotiate a price that included all necessary repairs, and completed the transaction. So, overall, a good process.

The boat I sold was advertised on E-Bay. I got a buyer interested from the E-Bay auction, and we completed the transaction off of E-Bay (after he got a chance to view it, sea trial and survey it). E-Bay gives you a lot of exposure for a very reasonable price, but very few real "big ticket" transactions actually occur on E-Bay.

Most E-Bay buyers are looking for desperate or stupid sellers.

If your boat is actually worth (cash value) $1.0X
Most retailers and on-line sellers (boat traders) try to sell for $1.2X - $2.0X
You will get a lot of folks from E-Bay that want to buy your boat at $0.6X - $0.8X

It is actually pretty easy to determine when you are close to that magical price for your boat. When your price starts to approach $1.0X - your phone starts to ring!

Unfortunately, ebay has really gotten to be an expensive way to sell things these days. I just sold a trombone on ebay for $1000, and between the paypal fees and ebay fees, I ending up having to pay $80, plus I was dumb enough to provide free shipping, which cost another $40, so I only netted $880 on 1K. I'll try to sell my other horn somewhere else.

Actually, E-Bay is still a good deal. Your auction costs were only 8% to get your item sold (the free shipping was your choice, and most bidders include the value of it in their bid)

Have you ever taken an item to Brick & Mortar Auction House? The seller's cost at a real auction can run up to 40%:wow: So, a 8% commission to advertise, take a credit card, and put the payment in your bank is pretty good.

E-Bay is not always the best place to sell everything, but it does give you a national exposure at a small price.

I would rather deal with PAYPAL than meet a stranger offering me cash for a Craigslist Transaction.

Dave, want to trade a Ferrari for a boat????:) Wish we were closer, I would entertain it. Good luck!

I have ... it's really not so much about actually selling it there, but I always got the leads that led to the sale from there. Last sold our 2004 Four Winns 248 Vista there in 2006.

I bought my current boat on eBay - was a great deal and experience. It was with Marine Max in Wrightsville Beach. The way they handle their auctions is it sets the price - the final sale is contingent on a satisfactory inspection.

Good luck dealing with the bidders.... the funny thing is you can publish their comments... so if you get a real obnoxious question like the "if you dont tell me your reserve" I'd publish it. Let the world know what you're dealing with.

I sold my 1998 330DA on ebay back in 2005.....the deal closed after the auction ended....had three 'serious' inquiries during the auction, most were tire kickers, but I would think that to be the norm.

Marinemax is using ebay quite heavily these days....

I have used eBay for years 300+ feedback, there are lots of great eBayer's and a few bad, I also use Craigs List for local interest, but I can only place 4 photos.
I set a list price I will sell it for that will cover eBay's sellers fee, eBay gets to a lot of lookers some with stupid questions that are usualy covered in the listing,
but if your price is reasonable you will get a responce.

I really like ebay. Sold 2 motorcycles and a truck among other things. Bought the boat, bikes, quads, fishing stuff, lots of boat this past year:smt101, bike parts, You just have to kind of know how much you want for an item or how little you are willing to take for one ahead of time.

I sell quite a bit on ebay-mostly cars and parts. (my ebay sales subsidize my boating habit) I have bought and sold a few boats on ebay, in fact I just sold a Zodiac to a guy in Bulgaria-thought it was a scam for sure, but his US buddy paid w/ PayPal. Who knew??
Like Joe said above, most ebayers are decent, and other than getting a bunch of stupid questions, it's a great way to sell just about anything

Bought my corvette off ebay, and boat off of craigslist. Awesome deals on both! :smt038

I have bought and sold off ebay for the last 10 years but I have recently gone almost exclusively with craigslist. My biggest problem with Ebay is the requirement to use Paypal exclusively for all money transactions which eats into your sale money even more (not 40% but more than 8%). Paypal is nice but making it required is draconian.
