Another question. I picked up a 1240P last winter. It feeds 2 banks of batteries. I had to replace one bank today, could be age/charger combo, don't know. On this charger it has a bunch of modes along with battery type selector. When I got the charger I set it to Led Acid power 2. It was the lower of the 2. At start up it runs at 14.7v for 240 min then ramps down to 13.4. In the manual it states to only run the batteries in Conditioning/Normalization mode 4 times a year max. This is why the voltage ramps up. The problem is every time I connect to shore power and the charger goes on it ramps up to conditioning mode at 14.7v for the 240 min. Now I had to just replace my starboard batteries and noticed one tray was full of acid, like they were over charged. I tried calling and emailing ProMariner, but they haven't gotten back to me. Also have a question about the Amp display on the front. Is that what the battery is drawing or what the charger is putting out? Thanks Guys

I installed a 1240P last summer. It is a 3 bank charger :)

Mine also always starts at 14.7 but I don't think this necessarily means it's in reconditioning mode?

Are you seeing the LED on the front that says "conditioning" or "equalization"? If the former, which is a green LED, I believe this is the mode mine is generally defaulting to. I can't say I've ever seen mine enter equalization mode, which is indicated by a red LED, though I am regularly at 14.7 volts.

And last...the amps shown is output.

I just installed a Promarnier 1215P. I have flooded batteries. And mine is set on profile #1. Mine also displays 14.7 on start up. And then goes down to 13.4 after initial charge. Then it goes into a conditioning mode. Nothing shows on the display. Just the led light on the setting is on. How old are the batteries? I'm going down to the boat this morning. I will take a picture of the charger in its current state and post later.

I have interstate deep cycle 27's. I changed the setting to the factory setting sealed profile 1 just to see. It outputs a slightly lower voltage. I'm going to go down in a little bit to see if it dropped. I always see .8v when everything is off. I assume this is normal. Something has to be drawing it. Now as for the Accessories. I have them on all the time, they pull 1.8v. I'm wondering if that is putting a strain on the batteries all the time. Like it's trying to charge them because of the load. Every time I plug into shore power I see the 14.7 and conditioning mode light on also.

Edit..Huh... I wonder what the pre determined voltage level is on this charger. I just googled what the manual says conditioning mode is.

From Manual = Conditioning /Green/ The unit is in absorption charge mode

Absorption charging is normally the second state in a multistage charging process. The absorption charge normally applies what is known as a topping charge. Absorption charging is also known as constant voltage charging. In plain English, voltage is held constant until the current falls to a predefined level.

But you're not seeing "equalizing"? It sounds to me like your charger is operating normally. It's built for continuous duty, ie. running all of our accessories all the time.

After I factory reset and disconnected the CCTV load the unit it looked like yours. Before it always showed voltage and 1.8a load.
So I spoke to ProMariner. It could have been a combination of things that cooked the battery. Since the CCTV setup I have is always on the charger sees a load and always wants to charge. I also had the setting on PS I believe. If I had it on Bc it would shut down until the battery needed power. This could be why there was battery acid in the tray when I removed it (overcharged). Also since there is a load all the time he said the charger will be fine, but closely watch the battery and top it off when needed. So the plan is to use the 3rd bank with separate battery for the CCTV and underwater led's. This way I can't run down the starboard starting batteries while on the hook also.

Conditioning mode probably runs every time the unit powers up after the batteries are pretty well charged. it is not limited to 4 times per year. Equalization mode is only recommended 4 times per year.

Correct. In the manual it says Equalization/Conditioning, just like that. I brought it up to the tech and he knew exactly what I was talking about. He said they should take it out of the manual that way, it's confusing to customers.
