Ok, looking at many, many threads about problems with the Northstar NS 100, I'd like to do a poll on how many of us got screwed! :smt013

I got screwed on a pair of Northstar fuel flow meters a few years ago. I posted a rant about that. Their customer service sucks IMHO.

I find it interesting that I have a 3 year warranty on a radio that they no longer make and cannot get replacement parts for. What good is that?

I see in the other more recent thread started by Bugsy24, that there have been others that had the PTT switch fall off the PCB... I fixed mine and would be glad to fix others if you want to send it to me... pay the shipping both ways only.

I think pretty much every Sea Ray made between 2006 and 2008 (or maybe 2009) that were equipped with a VHF had a NS100 installed. The same holds true for those equipped with a GPS were also Northstar during those years.

I am sure it is no coincidence that Brunswick Marine owned Northstar during this period but sold it off to Navico after a very short time (in 2008). It was during this time that the Northstar GPS/Smartcraft gateway was developed.

After those model years I started seeing the NS100 replaced with Raymarine VHF radios, "vendor of choice" for Sea Ray before the Northstar units were implemented for a short time. I guess when they exhausted their supply of Northstar gear they went back to Raymarine since the parent company had sold off Northstar.

Whats, interesting about the Raymarine VHF is it's the same style. Contoller Handset, Speaker Box and hide away Head unit. The only other set-up like those I've seen during my search for a replacement was a Garmin unit!!

Can we combine this with a "who got screwed with an LG Microwave/Coffee Maker unit?" poll?

Luckily I have a spare radio but would kill for a new carafe!

I got an ICOM VHF... one of the best upgrades I did on my boat... Can talk to people 25 miles away... literally...

I would have loved to have gotten a New VHF but then I would have had to change the Footprint on the Dash!! For $200. a replacement was the best option at this time!!

You need to vote Yes! Unless you like replacing a unit that isn't even 3 years old.

+1. Impossible to find.

Add me to the list. I'm so glad to be rid of that vhf. Beyond the physical character flaws, that radio picked up so much feedback, even with the squelch all the way up. It made the scan functions useless.

Anyone have the coating on the mike cord on the NS 100 crack and fall off? Can't find a replacement mike at a decent price, nor can I find a replacement cord. I know what you mean about the background noise!!

My 280 came with a Raymarine 210 so nope no NS100 issues for me. Replaced it with a Northstar Explorer VHF-710 because the 210 had limited capabilities and did not have the coast guard informational channel 22a.

I do have a fair amount of Northstar electronics though. And Navico has been good to me in 2012 and 2013.

I thought the polls closed after a time.
