So last night on my way home from dinner i am cruising at about 2600rpm. everything is fine. it was such a calm night, i increased my rpm's to about 2800-2900 and i get a high pitch whistle noise. i back the throttle down to 2600 again and it goes away. i tried this a couple times and kept getting that same whistle noise at the higher rpm. its not normal that i cruise much above 2600-2700 rpm so not sure if this is new or been there. any sggestions? everything else seems to be operating perfectly fine other than that noise. i scheduled a cummins mechanic to come out tomorrow but if its something easy that i can deal with i would prefer not to pay the $1000 trouble shooting fee.

Possible high water alarm is sounding when bilge water is being sent aft at the higher speed?
Bilge is completely dry. no water at all. i am going to take it out for a ride tonight with a friend so i can go in the bilge while underway to see if its anything obvious.

Just a couple wild guesses, turbo whine that changes decibel range at that speed you don’t usually run and it makes it more audible to your ears.
Another guess, Restricted airflow from the increase in air consumption. Although there should be plenty of open area designed into engine space air flow, you never know. Try opening the engine hatch a bit the next time and see if it goes away. Don’t know anything about pods

ill give that a shot. my first thought was restricted air flow (air cleaners) or boost leak, maybe a clamp or hose.... ill get down there tonight for a quick ride just to see if its anything obvious if not i guess i will let the professionals deal with it.

Does your boat have a float switch under the salon sole (not the bilge)? Water in there? Sump overflow alarm?
it does. ill take a look in there but im in that quite a bit because i keep cleaning supplies in there and its always been dry. haven't been in there for a week so its worth a look i suppose. really does seem to be more a turbo whistle though. but worth a look anyway .

I would second turbo whine or a possible boost pressure leak.
Pods should not have that type of noise associated with them.
You should be able to pull up boost numbers on your vessel view (or smart craft display)

yes! i will do that tonight on the sea trial. its got to be something pretty simple.

Curious if you have boost gauges and if so did you notice a difference in boost readings?

First time I’ve seen that that the hose didn’t blow off. Usually it’s “bang” followed by black smoke. Your lucky day!
