which drive do i have alpha or bravo

hi,

just got my 1989 sea ray sundancer 250 with the 5.7. salesman told me it has a 5.7 alpha 1 but other people tell me that mercruiser didnt sell 5.7 alpha 1 sterndrives for a 250 sundancer that they are 5.7 bravo 1 units. boat hasnt made it to the waukegan harbor yet since the truck blew the water pump towing it today. right now its by my buddys marina on the fox chain of lakes.



it would be interesting to know if its a alpha drive or bravo drive

I don't think that way back in 1989, when the bravo drive was new, that Merc paired them with small block V8s. They built the Bravo because the Alpha could not handle big block torque.

I would bet it is an alpha 1.

i kinda thought so, didnt think the 350 had the bravo drives in 89 but then i heard people at the marina its at for another day or so unless i change my mind and keep it on the fox chain started talking about it being a bravo 1 made for a little confusion since im trying to find an owners manual for the engine it has
