Hi all. I know that I can work out where my boat was made from the HIN number but not sure how to decipher it. Can anyone help?

I tried that but it pulled up 500 results and after the fifth page I realised that the search function wasn't gonna be specific enough. Then I tried the google search using Site : clubsearay.com "boat built" and it came up with ziltch!

Am hpoing that someone knows the answer without me having to trawl for weeks!

Hello Iain,

The letters and numbers in your serial number all mean something.

The first three SER is the designation for Sea Ray Boats

The fourth letter indicates which plant built the boat.
ie: R = Riverview, V = Tellico Lake, T = Knoxville, P = Palm Coast, Merrit Island and Sykes Creek have letters too but I am not certain what they are. Your boat most likely has an R in the fourth position. The Riverview, Tellico Lake, and Knoxville plants are all located in close proximity to each other in Tennessee.

The next 4 digits are the boats identification number.

The Fifth letter signifies the month that the boat was built in.
ie: A = Jan, B = Feb, and so on.

The Sixth number is the last digit of the year that the boat was built in. In your case it could be a 5 or a 6.

The last two indicate the model year. In your case it would read 06.

My serial number is SERV3492L697 which means the boat was built in the Tellico Lake plant in December 1996 as a 1997 model year boat.

So there you go. I think I have that correct. If not, I am quite certain that someone here will correct me.

SER (T) - Knoxville Plant - Tennessee
SER (R) - Riverview Plant - Tennessee
SER (V) - Tellico Plant - Tennessee
SER (M) - Oxford Plant - Michigan
SER (A) - Phoenix Plant - Arizona
SER (P) - Palm Coast Plant - Florida
SER (F) - Merritt Island Plant - Florida
SER (Y) - Sykes Creek Plant - Florida
SER (E) - Cork Ireland Plant - Cork Ireland
SER (C) - Cherokee Cove Plant (Now Mastercraft, across from Tellico plant). - Tennessee
SER (VB) - Bucyrus Plant - Ohio
SER (RB) - Bucyrus Plant - Ohio
SER (S) - Fort Mill Plant - South Carolina

I don't have the code for the International plants like China, Mexico or Poland.

Looks like Shel-game beat me to it!

Thanks everyone. Thats really useful. I'm actually tracing my parents Sundancer 240 rather than my own boat. Their HIN starts with SERA, so Arizona then :)

Ted, I'm guessing yours is probably the same as theirs! Thanks for the tip off on the carpet people by the way :) - they're going to use the same templates that they did on yours when they make the new carpets for Mum and Dads!
