Well, I posted this in the sport boat forum, but in 24 hours no one replied - although 40 people viewed it. So, maybe y'all can tell me where I should be posting? Oh - I did get good info on the tabs in that forum.

Hello folks. Let me introduce myself. Yes, my name is Gary Lewis - I'm on too many forums to try to remember anything but my real name. And, I'm in the Tulsa area.

I just bought a 2002 SeaRay 230, which apparently is the Signature series? Is there a difference? I know what a Select is as I looked at two of them, but....

Anyway, it has 330 hours on the clock and has these options:

  • 6.2L
  • Bravo III
  • Halon - I think
  • Dual batteries
  • Trim tabs
  • Fresh water system
  • Bow filler cushions
  • Two-tone graphics
  • Aluminum trailer

We haven't actually taken delivery of it yet, but I already have questions. First, is there a specific forum for these boats?

Second, are there recommendations on a full cover for it as I hope to get a slip for it and want to keep it clean.

Third, are there any specific issues or areas that I need to check out?

Last, I hope to put trim indicators on it. Anyone done that on these boats?

Welcome to CSR Gary. Sorry we personally don't know much about your particular boat but am sure plenty on here will and help you out, there's some VERY knowledgable helpful folk on here. Congrats on the new ride and enjoy!

Two answers ,1) there is a bennett trim tab forum.2) great lakes boat tops should be able to make an oem cover for your boat if they have the template, otherwise you will have to have a local shop do the canvas.A 6.2 should move that 230 pretty good.Sometimes it takes a few days for the right boater to read and fact check before answering a post, sometimes less sometimes more.Oh Welcome to csr.

Thanks, Britlady. I've gotten one response in the Sport Boat forum, but apparently things are a little slow there so I need to wait a while.

By the way, what part of Old Blighty?

1956Olds - Thanks. I found the tabs forum and have gotten good advice there. As for the cover, I'll check locally. And, I hope that 6.2 pushes the boat quite well. Thanks again.

Welcome aboard Gary. I too can't tell ya much about that specific model but I imagine it goes like stink. All the best with it and have a blast. Oh yea, we found that our boat stays a lot cleaner with just the travel tarp on it. We've got the OEM one from Great Lakes but any marine upholstery shop should be able to custom make one for you. Don't cheap out on the material though. Buy the best possible grade of Sunbrella. We've had a couple tops made from the "Top Gun" material too but, although it's really waterproof, it doesn't breath as well as the Sunbrella products. Pictures?

Chris - Thanks. Don't know how well it goes yet as we've not had it out. But, I've been told that these boats work well with a 5.0L, so the 6.2L should make it move.

Pictures? I'd like to but I'm somewhat confused with the limits here. I'm guessing that the 48.8 Kb limit it says I have is because I'm not a paying member? I don't have any pictures that are that small, so can't post them.

Hi Gary, we both hail originally from near Boston on the East coast but spent most of our time about 40 miles north of London as my husband traveled to work in London on the train from Leighton Buzzard. I take it you are from there originally. Where are you from?

Actually, I'm from KS and now live in OK. But, we spent two years in the UK. Lived in Moor Park, which is just inside the M25 close to Watford. And, I also commuted by train/tube into London. Worked for Conoco at their offices behind Selfridges. It was a wonderful two years.

Pleased to hear you enjoyed your time in the UK. London does have some interesting "stuff":) Bet you enjoyed driving on the left too!

I have a 2001 260 Select, very similar just a bit longer. Mine has most of the stuff yours has, same motor and drive etc. I really like it and I am sure you will like yours.

I got a full Sunbrella mooring cover from Bald Mikes last year. I it came with free trailer straps and I added some vented pole fittings. I would HIGHLY recommend this cover and BaldMikes.com. My boat has been dryer and cleaner than using the bow and cockpit combination and they had it cheaper than I could find anywhere else. A local upholstery shop told me I paid less than they could buy the fabric alone.

Gary,You can add a link to one of the picture storage sites such as photobucket or dropbox when you post so size wont matter.

BritLady - I liked driving on the left so well we are going to Ireland in Sept and getting a hire car.

NewToMe260 - I'll check out BaldMike's. Thanks!

1956Olds - Thanks! Let's try this. It is from the advert on Boat.com as I don't have any good ones yet.

Sharp ride Gary!We love pictures on CSR.

Thanks. It has 333 hours, which is quite a few compared to others we were looking at. However, it appears to have been well maintained and there's almost no cosmetic damage to the hull, and no true damage. So, with all the bells and whistles I wanted and a reasonable price we took the plunge.

But it does have some things that beg for attention. For instance, in that photo the spare tire is quite conspicuous. It is actually a spare tire/wheel mounted on a spare hub and bearing assembly - something I've not seen done before, but quite useful. However, does it really have to stick out like a sore thumb? Couldn't it be set horizontally below the bow? I'll check that out - some year.

And, the PO added a huge sealed subwoofer box to the front side of the bulkhead in front of the helm, with a large (12"?) Kicker firing at the captain's knees. My wife doesn't like it as it yells "loud and obnoxious", but since I like low freq's I think I'll enjoy it for a while, but at low volume, and see if it can stay.

Now, to find out how the dealer's test run went on Friday and then pick it up in about 10 days after he gets it sorted.

You did well on the left then as not everyone who goes over there does. Have a good time in Ireland and don't forget to kiss the Blarney Stone if you get near it:) Nice looking boat you're picking up!
