We are about to install a Garmin GPS to our 240da and are looking for advice about where to install the antenna. Problem is, we trailer the boat and have a fitted, trailerable mooring cover. Mounting to the stern or front railing would require removal before covering, don't want to mount inside cabin unless last resort, thinking maybe front deck over anchor storage or port side deck at windshield? Anyone else overcome this problem on a trailerable boat?

What model gps do you have, I have a Garmin 545s an it uses an internal antenna that works fine.

We installed ours to the port side of the helm under the windshield

Garmin 198c... has seperate disk shaped antenna. I'll take a look at the port side recommendation. By under the windshield do you mean on the front deck or on the dash? Thanks!

Here's how my Sirius antenna is mounted by the factory. Note my GPS antenna is up on the radar arch. But the Sirius location on the deck works well. On my boat, that location dumps the underside cable right into the cavity behind my stereo unit.

Great cable management! I'm looking at the port deck location but will have to check that the windshield doesn't hit it when hinged open.
