When removing old electronics and installing slightly smaller units, what is the best place to get a faceplate to bridge the gap? What is a good material to go with?

I plan to remove an inoperative Raychart 600xx control head (circa 1996) and install a panel-mount VHF in the same place.

Agreed on the Starboard. It's a plastic material that is easily worked.

I removed a VHF radio and needed to cover up part of the old hole to install the replacement. I went to the local plastics fabricator and had them cut and shape a piece to the exact dimensions I needed, although anyone with basic woodworking skills and tools could probably do the job. (I am NOT a woodworking guy).

Good luck.

Thanks for the recommendations. I found a link for the starboard if anybody needs some:

I'm having second thoughts of going with a different brand radio with different sized holes (yup, read all the other threads on VHFs). I have two inop Raymarine components that both use 7"x4" cutouts, so I think I'll just replace the 202 with a 218 VHF and leave the dead chartplotter there a little longer.

I'll still get some starboard to replace the ugly, old stereo speakers that have long been disconnected up on the bridge. Thanks again!

You might want to try Scott Cambra at www.vectorled.com. He has made dash panels for folks at the old website, and here too, I think.

Do a search for Scott Cambra, or I did "330 Dash Panel" as I remember a thread with Scott making a panel for a 330DA. You will need to make a template.
