Sorry if this has been asked a few times (seems like the sort of question that would have been), but the search function on this forum isn't all that useful. Anyway, ....

When I bought my boat I got 2 sets of ignition keys (2 pairs) but only 1 cabin key. I'd like to make a spare cabin - and, for that matter, spare ignition ones. Is this something West Marine would do? Do I have to go to the Sea Ray dealer? Could a local locksmith do this?

Yes. I've had dupes made of all my keys at a locksmith. The cabin door copy looks different and doesn't work smoothly, but it works.

The keys are made by mobella. Most (if original) have a code on the back that you can use to order them pre-cut. You can also find mobella blanks, and pre-cut keys by code on ebay.

For better searching go to google and type in:

search key words followed by "site:clubsearay.com" minus the quotes.

harley davidson blanks are close enough - Ive used a random office filing cabinet key that was on my key chain in a pinch......on two different boats! the locks are really a joke

Well, my Harley uses a key with a round end, whereas the boat keys are flat. And you're right about the locks. My only goal with the lock is a deterrent, so that any trouble maker moves on to the next boat (which might be unlocked).

Sea Ray dealers. Even with their high prices, its a low cost item and saves aggravation of trying to find them.

Just did this. I ordered the blanks from my local dealer for about $14/ blank. Took their master key to a hardware store for cutting. The hardware store charged me $0.99/ to cut each blank. I didn't have a key to begin with, but the dealer was pretty cool about me using their master set to find the key. All in about $60 and 30 minutes of my time. I thought I might have to drill the lock and start fresh, so not a bad fix in my eyes.

So from what I've gleaned off here and the rest of the Interwebs, you can get the cabin keys from Mobella - I just ordered them through eBay. But the ignition keys have to be cut. Either a hardware store or locksmith (or Harley dealer, ha ha). Or the Sea Ray dealer, I guess. I'll be getting another set of ignition keys ordered soon, too.

The Harley key equivalent is not for the ignition. It's to the cabin. The Harley side bag or box key is the same blank as the Mobela cabin door key. Some Harley dealers won't sell the blanks except to Harley owners. You can buy the sea ray blanks from sea Ray and if you know your lock set number they may have them pre cut.

So not to hijack this thread, but wondering if anyone has a good source for the ignition keys? I haven't called FP, but that'll be my first stop. Having recently moved to a marina, having an extra set to leave in the car may prevent a future trip back home to get them!

I just looked into this. Apparently, they use simple blanks that a hardware store should have. Or a locksmith.
