Where to find used canvas?

You can find very large tarps at farm supply stores (Tractor Supply and the like). They have grommets, so you can jury rig it any way you want.

For winter storage, it's simpler and easier to have it shrink wrapped. The shrink wrap can be re-used.

On the other hand, it might be worth it to get an estimate on a good cockpit cover, so you can at least keep things neat and dry. It'll come in handy in the summer, too.

Pat,

Sunbrella has about a 5 year life. By year 3, it leaks at stress points where stainless hits it and in stitch lines. Any used canvas you find is likely going to be more trouble than its worth. Most people delay replacing canvas until way past the useful life so whatever you find it likely going to be dumpster material. However, if you can handle leaks and tears, used canvas may be a decent wind break.

Jeff,
Thanks for the tarp idea. I think even old patched canvas would be more pleasing to my dockmates.

Frank,
At this point even 10 year old canvas would be better than the nothing I have now. My wife used to make canvas for a living. She'll do the good set when I get the rest done.

Why not give your local canvas vendors a call? They must deal with old canvas on a regular basis.

Pat,

I have a friend in the canvas business in PC. He is doing some VW seats for me now, so I'll see him next week. I'll see if he has a 340DA or EC scheduled in the future. Old canvas goes in the dumpster immediately, so I doubt success, but I'll ask.

Pat,

Also an idea; maybe the flounder pounder has something for you.
I looked on the site today for you but it was not on it.
But they write on the site that they have a lot more than is on the site or they know where to get...

Maybe you can give it a try?

Succes Peter
