I have a 1996 550 Sedan Bridge that we have been living aboard now for 2 months...all is going well, but some things I am trying to find/locate like the overboard discharge I am having a difficult time tracking down.

Are you referring to the discharge for your blackwater tank?

If that's the one you're looking for, take a look at your blackwater tank. Follow the hose lines as they come out of the tank. You should see the hose where the blackwater goes into the tank, then there will be another vent line with a smaller hose (about 5/8" diameter). That goes up to the "fart filter" which is a white piece of PVC (probably covered by a silver label) with a hose fitting on each end. The outlet end of the far filter goes to the hull and overboard.

There may also be another hose (larger diameter) that goes to a 3-way valve and your macerator. That valve is supposed to be secured in the position where you can't dump overboard unless you're beyond the 3-mile limit offshore where it's legal to dump. The other hose coming out of that 3-way valve goes up to the walkway where it connects to a Perko Valve. That is used for a dockside pumpout.

If you're at a dock and don't often leave the slip you should check for a mobile pumpout boat that will come to your dock and pump your boat out (for a fee) as often as you need it.

I hope this helps.

The overboard discharge was an option on most boats in the 90's, not standard equipment. Your boat may have on that is factory or may have one that was dealer installed so there is not standard answer here. YOu are just going to follow the waste line from one ned or the other.....from the dockside pump out deck plate tback to the tank ot from the tanks out. Your waste pump, if it exists, will be "T'd" off that line.

Frank, I could be wrong (it's happened once before! :smt101 ) but it was my understanding that SR built a lot of boats to be freshwater boats. Built for freshwater they didn't have a macerator. Mine was built that way and I had one installed when I bought it.

Thanks for the responses. I believe this one has the discharge built in as it is on the original control panel and has a overboard discharge switch, but when I first went down to investigate for the overboard valve from the tank, I couldn't locate it. I read the schematic and it says there is one, but I have not found it yet...I assumed it was between the tank and the pump out access on the port side...again, was not able to locate it, I will investigate again.

My 42 Aft is the same vintage as yours. There is no valve. The over board discharge pump is Y'ed into the pump out line. The discharge pump is not a macerator but a left-hand thread version of the vacuum pump on the Vacuflush.
