Thanks for any assistance!

1996 300 Sundancer, twin 5.7L...

The Windlass is getting no power. I'm not really sure where to look, so any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

Do you have a circuit breaker panel in the engine compartment? I had a '96 330 and it was located on the forward wall of the engine compartment.

It may be in the bilge (it is on my 330).

I thought I had the same problem once and narrowed it down to the actual "main" switch on the helm. The contacts were dirty/corroded and it was not activating the solenoid properly. Check that first. I found that out after replacing a solenoid that was actually working. :smt021

If its not that, then check the solenoid function itself to make sure that there is power on the out side of it. The solenoid on mine is behind the dash panel (and a spare now in the spare parts bin).

And la$t, check the control unit by the windlass itself.

what creekwood said, the main switch was my problem

There should be two sets of circuit breakers. One set will be on the low amperage circuits, i.e. the controls, the other will be for the high current circuit. If you have two sets of controls, a set of foot switches and a dash switch there will be breakers for each. The high current breaker will be located in the ER, and most likely is an in line fuse. It will be on the positive line leading to the windlass, as close to the batteries as possible. Yours should be there as well (fuse close to power source is just good electrical design practice). On the 280 it is located literally above the batteries. The picture below shows the 280 set up:

The fuse is the module on the left. On the right is the solenoid that triggers the high current to the windlass. You should have one of these as well. If your fuse is good, no high amp juice could also be from a bad solenoid.

Thanks for the picture Henry. I went most of last year without my windlass dash control working. It was a blown 5A fuse on the breaker in your picture.

It is in a CB panel on your stbd side cockpit storage pockets, it's hard to see because it's carpeted.
