My refrigerator died today (see the thread). I pulled it out and checked voltages and then I ohm'ed the compressor windings – bad news. The compressor winding are open. So I need a new Norcold DE0051 and would like to find a reasonable price. By the way – I think I know how I killed it – I think I forgot to turn the breakers off when killing the generator this weekend . . . . just wonder what else I killed.

:smt101Summer is over....live with it for now...look hard online over the winter and save yourself the$$$$$$$$online search as wel as local marine stores IMHO Best Wishes

I've heard great things about Isotherm fridges. If my Norcold dies I think I'll consider one of these.
I've heard that their Danfoss compressors are much quieter, more efficient and both of those attributes sound good to me.

Voldad,

Do not beat yourself up. Sometimes generators shut down like when you suck up debris and it cannot get water for cooling.

I make a habit out of shutting down the breakers then the main before I shut off the generator but I never read that you must do this.

defender is having a sale now on Waeco/dometic, much better than norcold as it uses danfoss compresser.
Norcold and waeco owned by same company, waeco is the premium brand
shipping is the killer so I got WM to PM the fridge, saved a bundle and WM has free shipping right now

Mine died after 4 years of light use. Unfortunately - after having my HVAC/Refrig tech spend some time on it - we determined they are a one trick pony. They simply aren't worth re-building. I went to Defender which is only 20 miles from my house. Did the same Norcold system and it dropped in easily. The guys at Defender were helpful and recommended installing a small computer fan behind the unit to move air. They see them go belly up from overheating even though they have an aux. fan built-in below the compressor. I did find my cabinet was really hot when the unit was running. I now run a small 12V computer fan mounted behind and over the frig and leave s side cabinet door open to move air. The heat coming out the grate above the frig is impressive and will hopefully let this one go more than 4 years.

I bought one from Defender. They were way below West. It was years ago.

I bought it at iboats - paid more than defender . . but shipping was cheap ($26) and due to my location was able to get it in 2 days. I'll bookmark defender - though, nice site. But dang this one is much noisier than my old one. Think I'll pull it out to see if the compressor is properly isolated.

I ordered the cooling unit and installed it my self. Seems like was about $600. Great part was I didn't have to take the unit out of the cabin.
