Fuel injected 502 Mercruiser (1995 i think)
I have a 290 1991 SeaRay with (around) a 1995 502 fuel injected 8.2 liter mercruiser. The engine has started knocking so I removed the oil filter, cut it open, and found a fair amount of silver metal flakes. I want to get the oil analyzed to find out where the metal is coming from. Does your company do this or can you point me in the right direction.

Thanks for the help and I look forward to hearing from you

Check out http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

If he doesn't have it listed, I'd be surprised. I buy my oil analysis kits from a local truck dealer... but they check my diesel and I would assume your boat oil is just as easy to evaluate...

For years I have been using Motor Check Analysis Clinic in West Palm FL.. Give Richard a call @ 561-684-7799 he will send you the kits to withdraw oil samples and send off to him. Quick turn around. Nice print out of analysis.

I have been using Blackstone for years with great results. They sell a great little hand pump that fits right on the sample bottles they provide.

Pretty much eliminates the need for analysis. The analysis is done. When you can see that much metal, you're into a bearing in all likelyhood. It won't hurt to do the oil analysis. Maybe it is some other metal, distributor gear, etc.

With metal circulating around, you're usually done anyway. A tear down and rebuild or replacement is in your future.

Upon re-reading, you have a knock AND metal. That's about it. Save your money on the oil analysis.
