First of all i have to say sorry if my english isn´t perfect.
I am from germany and i just bought and imported a used sea ray sundeck 210 with a mercruiser 5.0 and a alpha one.

My problem is that i don´t know exactly how much hp this engine has and from what i found out, i can get detailed informations with the engine number. Also for the insurance the engine number would be important.

My problem right now is, that i can´t find the engine number.

I attach a few pictures of the engine and i would like to ask you for help, where can i find the engine number ?

Thank you for your help

Boxster,

Welcome aboard. Sorry I can't help with your exact questions, someone will soon I am sure. If you go to the Mercury Marine web site you will fine lots of information on the Mercruiser 5.0 engine and Alpha One Outdrive.

220HP.

Look on that round, plastic piece that says "5.0 liter Mercury" on it. You'll see the engine serial number listed there.

thank you for the help.

220 hp is what i am thinking too. If on this picture is what you meant with round plastic peace, the engine number isn´t written there. Any other idea?

How to locate your serial number:

MerCruiser Sterndrives:
The engine serial number tag is located near the starter (by the flywheel housing), the rocker arm or flame arrestor cover.
The sterndrive serial number tag is located on the upper drive shaft housing (starboard side or on the back of the housing)

The inboard engine serial number is located on the plate or sticker on the swivel mounting bracket that mounts

WOW Boat Tech,

big big big thank you. Vielen Dank. You helped me a lot.

Hmmm. That's weird, though, that it's not on the flame arrestor cover. It makes me wonder if something has been replaced. BT, what do you think?

You may want to verify the engine serial number above with the actual metal tag on the engine. However, being able to physically see this on your boat is not for the faint of heart. It's on the aft, starboard corner of the engine. It's a few inches above where the starter mounts (or, the aft most end of the starter) - yup, pretty much ALL the way back there! The tag is silver/black and is about 2"x1". A mirror-on-a-stick and a flashlight may help.

Normally those serial number stickers would get installed either by the boat manufacture at time of build or by the selling dealer at time of boat preparation, This is as long as no one has forgotten to install them along the way, which most likely happened here.

Unfortunately it's pretty common for those stickers to be missing on a lot of boats, Also those stickers will either peel off or the lettering will smear off pretty easy if your not careful while cleaning, But it looks to me like they where never installed from new.

In the end it's supposed to be up the selling dealer to ensure all of the stickers are there on the flame arrestor cover, Do to the fact that some boat manufacturers will ship the sterndrive uninstalled from the boat, requiring the dealer to install the drive, And at the same time they are supposed to be installing the serial number sticker on the flame arrestor cover because the sticker is inside the sterndrive box from new.

Also the engine and the transom assembly sticker is sometimes in with the mercruiser owners guide/packet and the dealer should have opened the packet at sometime and found the stickers and installed them, But that does not always happen for a number of reasons that i really shouldn't go into right now.:smt021:grin:

Yes, absolutely agree with everything you said - especially the "number of reasons" comment! I guess what strikes me as odd is that the transom # was put on, but the others weren't. If you're going to peel the transom sticker off the prep sheet, why not the engine sticker? I mean, I rarely check a boat in or do the initial prep - but I thought the engine and transom stickers were on the same piece of paper? I might be thinking more into this than needs to be. But I guess if it was me, I'd try to take a look for the tag - if for no other reason than for piece of mind. Who knows - maybe the flame arrestor was replaced at some time - verify the # on the cover with the # on the transom assembly.

My thoughts of why only the sticker for the transom assembly was installed might be because the person that installed the transom assembly was just more of a thorough type person with more experience than the other installers.:smt001

The stickers come in separate little yellow envelopes with each item that has it's own box. The installer should be the one putting them on the cover you would think, But that does not always happen, Sometimes the installers will just put the yellow envelopes in next to the owners manual going from what I have noticed before.:wow:

Little yellow envelopes - now it's coming back to me!

thank you again to both of you. Just to be sure that only the stickers were forgoten i will check the metal sticker too.

Boxster,
Do you have the owners packet? The previous posters said it might be in there. In addition my buddy had the s/n's to both of his engines in the packet as well as on the spark arrestors.
Unless you're a professional contortionist I would look there first!

no i don´t have the owners packet.
And after trying to find the engine number at the silver plate , i am even more happy about boat techs help.
I tried to locate it and i tried to put a digicam with flash somewhere near the position but all i saw was rust and darkness.

But i am happy like it is. I have all the numbers i needed.

Thank you guys. You have been a big help.
