I can not find the fuel filters….. and I have been looking and looking. The one for the fuel to the generator is easy as it is right next to the port side tank. Now I have traced the fuel line from the tank, into the cutoff solenoid and out to some “black box” on the side of the engine. This “box” is on the bottom, right side of the engine, as looking from the back of the engine to the aft of the boat (front of the engine). This box has three bolts holding some type of lid?? Is the fuel filter in this?

I changed the little mufflers for the IAC valve today, and they where very dirty. I also cleaned the spark arrestors as well, now if I can only find those filters.

Anyone with the 350 MAG, can you help??

That "box" with the 3 bolts contains the filter. Someone just posted the repair with photos. Try a search. That filter is about $40.00 with "O" ring. It is not hard to change but be sure engine has been off for a few hours to relieve the pressure before removing.

Congrats on the Cool Fuel Unit!!!! Instead of paying $8 for a filter, as T-Bird said, you get to pay $40 or more. The good thing is, that you probably do not have the in-line filters in addition, so I guess there is some money savings there. So you have that going for you, which is nice......

Oh lucky me, I go to the parts counter at the marina and tell them I want two fuel filters for the 350 MAG engine and they sell me two filters that look like the oil filters.

PS... thanks for the info.

You need fuel filter 35-866171A01 (Mercruiser part #)

There are actually 2 filters in each unit. After you pull out the filter cartridge, look inside at the bottom. There is another "coffee filter" looking filter at the bottom. Another $25.00 each. Just changed mine. Both pretty dirty.

Last year I put less than 40 hours on my 350 MAG and it is always trailered. (All gas purchased at gas stations)

Should I still replace both fuel filters before heading out this year?

How about the genny? put about 100 hours on it last year - replace its fuel filter?

Thanks

Well I did the job this afternoon, replaced both filters on each engine. The work itself was not difficult at all, but the 130 dollars worth of filters is rather tough to take!:smt013

In the future you can avoid changing that small bottom filter (screen) per Mercruiser. Just blow it clean.

I change mine each year, cool fuel & generator fuel filters. Its the particles imbedded in the filter pleats that you can't see that cause problems when you least want them.

Now back to Hack's thead...

Yep, alot of $$$, but being new to the boat, I now know that they are clean.

I've used Sierra. No issues.
